Edge connection stopped working.

For some reason my edge connection stopped working. Whenever I load apps it says error no internet but yet I still have the edge icon on my phone. I didn't hack it or do anything wrong to it recently it just stopped working. Is there anyway to check to see if the network is down in my area or anything like that?
