Guide: MMS and Tethering working with AT&T on 3.0 iphone
UPDATED: 9-25-09
To get MMS and Tethering working with AT&T on your 3.0 iPhone
IPCC files are used to update carrier-specific settings in an iPhone. A current set is included with each version of iPhone OS software, and IPCC files permit only the carrier settings to be updated without making any other changes. These carrier-specific settings include data access point names (APNs), MMS settings, tethering settings, operator logos, etc. They also contain a list of SIM card ICCID prefixes to which those settings will apply.
Here is the official signed carrier settings from AT&T with the cellular data settings screen and tethering enabled. Tethering works great on 3.0 and 3.01 but doesn't work on 3.1 yet.
ATT_US_STEALTH 6.0

After everything is said and done, make sure your voicemail settings says acds.voicemail for the apn
Important Notes - READ THIS FIRST:
* Safari browser users: If using Safari to download an IPCC or IPSW, open Safari Preferences (Safari menu - Preferences) and uncheck Open "safe" files after downloading first to prevent Safari from automatically unpacking (and deleting) the IPCC or IPSW after downloading it. In addition, Safari will probably append ".zip" to the filename. If so, rename the file such that its name ends in ".ipcc" or ".ipsw" (as appropriate).
* ALL CARRIERS: Power-cycle the phone (hold Sleep/Wake until red slider appears, slide it, wait for display to turn black, hold Sleep/Wake for 2 seconds to power back on) after applying a new IPCC; some effects (such as enabling MMS support) do not take effect without a power cycle.
Remember to use this ipcc for all versions of the iPhone and all firmwares: ATT_US_STEALTH 6.0

^ REMOVE THE SPACE AFTER C: (ITS THERE TO KEEP YOU HONEST)
Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from your Start Menu.
Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Shift key and click the Check for Updates button.
Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out
Step 7: In your settings app under messages, there will now be a toggle for MMS Messaging. Make sure its toggled to the ON position.
Step 8: Enjoy MMS
How to Enable Carrier Bundle Support in iTunes on a Mac and get MMS working

Step 3: Enter the following command into the Terminal window:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
Step 4: Connect your iPhone and click to launch iTunes from the dock.
Step 5: Select your iPhone from the list of devices on the left then hold down the Option key and click theCheck for Updates button.
Step 6: Now you can now select your .ipcc file as it is not greyed out
Step 7: In your settings app under messages, there will now be a toggle for MMS Messaging. Make sure its toggled to the ON position.
Step 8: Enjoy MMS
IF you have problems with enabling MMS here are some tricks and tips to get it working:
If you are having issues updating carrier settings via ipcc then follow this to manually SSH the carrier settings in:
Unzip this bundle. It should read ATT_US.bundle when done.
ATT_US.bundle
SSH into your phone and navigate to /var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles
There you will see a bundle called ATT_US, delete it and replace with the one downloaded.
now navigate to /System/Library/Carrier Bundles
There you will see a bundle called ATT_US, delete it and replace with the one downloaded.
Now restart your phone and you should have the camera icon in the messages app.
If in the future you get errors trying to update ipcc's via iTunes like this:
“iTunes could not update the carrier settings on your iPhone. An unknown error occured (0xE800003D)”
Then SSH to your iPhone and change permissions in the /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/ folder.
Type this in terminal:
chmod a+rw -R "/private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundles/"
You may have to navigate to the Carrier Bundles directory and run chmod a+rw -R /Carrier Bundles from there.
IF YOU ARE HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MMS NOT SENDING AND YOU ARE GETTING THE RED EXCLAMATION POINT THEN YOU NEED TO TRY THE FOLLOWING:
1. Reset Network Settings
2. Try reinstalling the ipcc. It should say AT&T 6.0 in your about tab.
3. Call AT&T and make sure line is provisioned correctly for MMS
Tethering Settings
1. Settings > General > Network > Internet Tethering, Flip the slider to on.
2. Plug you phone into your computer with sync cable and if you’ve done it correctly, your iPhone will momentarily disappear from the Source List in iTunes and a new “Network Interface” dialog will appear.
or
2. On your computer turn your bluetooth on and pair with your iphone. It will ask you to enter a code into your phone. After pairing click on device and join network.
This info was for before AT&T officially supported MMS for the iPhone and is no longer needed to get MMS working.
Method 1: This will be a temporary fix and may not last long.
1. Download the ATT_US.ipcc carrier settings bundle
2. Shift + Check for Update and install ATT_US.ipcc
3. Reset phone. Tethering should be working now
4. You will need an old AT&T/Cingular GSM phone that is medianet compatible.
5. Take the sim out of your iphone and put it into your old phone
6. Make a few phone calls and wait 5-10 minutes.
7. After that click on the following link to Medianet Home page: My MEdia Net
8. Enter your mobile number in the boxes. It may tell you that your phone is not supported, so wait longer. Eventually it will take your number and ask for a four digit code.
9. The four digit code will be texted to your phone. Enter the code and you will be registered with MediaNet.
10. Now try to go to media net online on your phone. If you are able to do that then send a MMS. This can take awhile. Mine took 15 minutes before it stopped telling me forbidden.
11. Logon to your AT&T account online and make sure you are not using the iPhone text messaging plan but a regular one. You will only be able to change this while you have the sim in your old phone.
12. Pop your sim back into your iphone and you should be using MMS!
YOUR MILEAGE MAY VERY WITH THIS METHOD. SOME LAST HOURS AND SOME LAST DAYS AND FEW HAVE NOT HAD IT GO OFF.
Method 2: This is tougher because you will have to talk to a AT&T rep but it will last longer as long as AT&T doesn't audit your account. Thanks Dizz!
1. Download the ATT_US.ipcc carrier settings bundle
2. Shift + Check for Update and install ATT_US.ipcc
3. Reset phone. Tethering should be working now
4. Call AT&T Tier Two Technical Support at 888-892-9760 press option 1
5. When talking to representative explain that you are a registered software developer for the iphone and need to have your phone activated for MMS.
These are the things they need to do to make it work
a. Make sure you are on a standard texting plan and not the iphone texting plan
b. Enable Media Net and WAP Push
c. There are two areas in Snooper that need to be checked off to enable MMS
d. They need to do a push OTA (over the air activation)
Remember to always be polite and if they give you any trouble, just say thank you and call back later.
Good luck everyone.
Enjoy!

Everything seems to be in order. However there was one snag I ran into. Since I was on the iPhone Text Messaging Plan, MMS wouldn't send from the other phone or my iphone. The way I fixed it was, after I registered my Razr (only old phone I had) with MediaNet, when I logged into my ATT account online it showed that my phone was now a Razr instead of an iPhone and I was able to change the messaging from iPhone Messaging Plan to a standard Unlimited Messaging Plan. Same price, etc. As soon as I did that, I was able to send/receive MMS on the Razr. Upon putting the sim back into my iphone I have had no problems yet. (That was this morning) Hopefully it sticks.

Same Ivan. My gf tried to send me a pic this morning but I never got it and when I tried to send one to her it said failed. Wish I could do it once and not have to worry about it. Anyone know how to get the mms that I never received? Or is there even a way?
