any version of itunes works. If you use itunes 8.2 you just have to enable custom ipcc upgrading

ON A MAC:
You must first configure iTunes to permit the use of IPCC files. This only needs to be done once. To do this:
1. If iTunes is running, quit iTunes (Command + Q)
2. Open Terminal (Macintosh HD - Applications - Utilities - Terminal)
3. Type or copy/paste the following into the Terminal window, then press the RETURN key:
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE
4. Launch iTunes
To apply an IPCC file to an iPhone:
1. Click the iPhone in the DEVICES section on the left to select it
2. Hold the OPTION key and click the CHECK FOR UPDATE button on the Summary screen
3. Select the IPCC file to apply

Well fortunately it worked for me. I did the steps (put SIM in old RAZR, talked to friend, waited 20 minutes, registered at Media Net website, sent test MMS, put SIM in iPhone, sent test MMS, received test MMS).
Unfortunately, it only lasted about 4 hours. I received and sent a total of 3 pictures on my iPhone (1st gen). Now it stopped working.
Oh well, fun while it lasted!

can you confirm it working?

Just an update on my post 3 messages ago.
I put my sim card into my RAZR this morning, send an MMS, it failed, clicked "resend", it worked.
Then I put the sim card back into my 1st gen iPhone and immediate received the MMS I sent from my fiancee's phone last night that failed.
I then sent two more MMS messages and they both worked.

I was able to get MMS working on both 3Gs on my account. Now visual voicemail does not work on them. I get a message that says "Voicemail Unavailabe Unable to initiate connection"
Any ideas?
my voicemail apn settings are set to acds.voicemail.com
EDIT: got it working. I reset my APN settings to default. left voicemail APN set to wap.cingular.com and added MMS mmsc and proxy. Rebooted phone and everything is working again.Last edited by oogotbagsoo; 07-03-2009 at 05:15 PM.

How do I switch to a PDA data plan? I don't mind giving up Visual Voice Mail for mms.

I've had my mms working on 3.0 with stealth's ippc. I even loaded it to my 3gs and it was working for the past 2 weeks however this morning like at 3am I tried to send a pic message and all of a sudden the pic dissapeared and the camera icon was gone... I havent been able to get my mms back!!

Has anyone attempted to use MMS on a 3GS? MMS worked for me the first couple of days I had my phone, all I had to do was upgrade to AT&T 5.0. Apparently iPhone 3GSs were already provisioned for MMS. However, it then stopped working, as AT&T must have decided to turn off my MMS. Even if I update network settings, reboot, change carrier file, etc., I do not even see MMS settings or the camera button. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have iphone 3GS 16gb black. and i got mms, tether, and internet working perfectly. Updating to ver 5.0 didnt work for me. I eventually was able to get mms working after doing alot of modification to ver 5.0. I renamed it 5.1.
here's some recent pics:
