Can/How Do I Jalbreak iphone 3G with plan?

I have an iphone 3G and contract with data plan from AT&T.

Is it possible to jailbreak the phone to add apps without messing up the phone/service/etc? I can't seem to find any info on successful results using a Macintosh computer to do so.

Any tips, links or advice is greatly appreciated.

On mac OSX 10.5.6, got all the way through where I restore to the custom file, select it and get extracting software, iphone can not be restored, unknown error (21)

any ideas?

OSX 10.5.6 I think you need a usb hub to properly get it into DFU mode. Check here http://www.modmyi.com/forums/iphone-...-dfu-mode.html
