Does every iPhone need a deposit?
Is it true that every iPhone account needs to pay a deposit regardless of your credit rating? My sister in law works for AT&T and told me this but I think she is full of ****! Anyone here get one without paying a deposit?

I too like to know if iPhone 3G purchasers a physical Apple Store will need to pay a deposit with AT&T. I would also like to know if Apple is allowing the purchaser to activate the new iPhone at home?

That's absolute rubish. The phone you purchase has nothing to do with deposit requirements. So yeah, she's full of it.
Yes, I believe you can activate at home, if you purchase at the Apple store. You will have to sign an activation agreement, stating that you agree to activate within 30 days. If you do not do so, you will be charged the full retail price of the phone. You also will end up being charged the full retail price if you don't activate it as a new line of service.Last edited by darkfiregt; 01-02-2009 at 07:47 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

The deposit is based on your credit rating.. not the kind of phone you're buying. If you're credit is good enough then zero deposit.

HA! All of you are WRONG!! My Credit was garbage when I activated my AT&T account at one of their stores...The Customer Service rep put in my info...I started to sweat...sweat..nerv,..then BOOM! No deposit! I bought the iPhone began a 2 year agreement and was activated by the time I left the store..I went to Verizon about 2 hours earlier and they wanted $250 from me for a deposit.
I guess I fell through a crack! HA! LMAOBlack iPhone 4 iOS4 AT&T

I didn't have to pay a deposit, I have good credit. I suggest you call one of those 1800 numbers to consolidate that debt.

i have to say as a mortgage broker that using one of those 1-800 numbers is probably one of the worst things you could do for your credit. as far as if you are trying to buy a house is concern. many lenders dont like seeing those..
dont think att would care but if you are trying to get a approved for a big loan. you are better off trying to settle out the old accounts.
