I have my account with out paying a deposit. The guy did tell me when I got it that he was surprised becuase ATT is usually a harder provider to get by without a deposit.

well AU$760 was VERY cheap, i was so suprised to have gotten it at that price, (well i actually wasnt meant to, Telstra were not meant to sell 16GB iPhone's outright to any customers, i was lucky i got served by a new employee
) a month before i bought my iphone, they had the price knocked up to about AU$1220

Yeah thats nuts. They wanted $700 from me which i'd get back in a year, bu my credit is pretty wack anyway. My wife was able to get our plan going with no deposit. And even hers isn't flawless. Just depends on your credit history but only to a certain degree.

from my own experience when your upgrading, no but a new contract will require one.
Like the value of the phone for a year!

Neither myself, nor my boyfriend needed a deposit when we bought our iPhones (new AT&T customers at the time).
