SwirlyMMS works with AT&T (simple)

ex-HoFo member here.....(i.e. - perma-banned)
Allow me to just say KCUF HoFo mods!

I have SwirlyMMS working on AT&T now on my 3G iPhone. Time will tell how long it works....but its MUCH simpler than everyone is making it out to be. Its as simple as 1 - 2 - 3

1. Download SwirlyMMS off Cydia

2. Set your SwirlyMMS Settings:

MMSC:
Proxy:
APN:

I'm not posting my settings as its already been listed elsewhere on this forum and others...and I think continuing to post the settings will increase the chances of AT&T changing them to avoid the hack.

blank username, blank password

3. Call up AT&T and have the "remove the MMS block" on the account. That's it. You don't need to add any account or anything like that providing you currently have an iPhone text plan. The only thing that prohibits the iPhone from sending MMS with Swirly is the fact that theres a BLOCK activated for MMS. Convince the Cust Service Rep to remove the block, and you'll be sending MMS's before you hang up the phone!

What were the settings you used? Did you use gQ's or another one? There is about 3 different settings on here I tried and curious which ones are reported to work.

I couldnt answer that about Tmobile since I don't have it.
Given the fact that the iPhone is still exclusive to AT&T, and I believe AT&T is the one putting the specific MMS block on iPhones, I wouldnt think you need to have them REMOVE any block if Tmobile doesnt have iPhone plans.

You may (and again this is just my guess) be able to just install Swirly and find the appropriate settings.
You'd have to try it out to know for sure.

Swirly MMS works with T-Mo USA just fine.
Dunno why anyone wants to have a non 3G iPhone on AT&T, and pay that price for a data plan, LOL! Especially if they are on these boards, they should know better, and save themselves some $$$!

barbermods what exactly did you say to them to have them remove mms block from the account ? I'm sure it's not standard practice for them to do it for all requests

agreed. in fact, I was really surprised he offered to do it; and when he suggested it (and still said he didnt think it would work), I knew I was in the clear. The fact that they HAVE a block selected for MMS on iPhone plans explains it all.

A - Play dumb (i.e. - your iPhone isnt capable of MMS anyway)
B - Tell them you use another phone with your iPhone SIM sometimes and everything works with it except picture messaging.
C - Tell them your friend told you that they changed the account so he could send messages in HIS other non-iPhone and you were hoping you could do the same.
D - Realize that its not common practice - realize its not likely you'll get them to do it on the first call....or maybe at all....and just be as polite as possible. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

I would imagine they're still doing sweeps and re-establishing the blocks on iPhone users and I'll probably lose the capability eventually. It's ridiculous that it isnt a standard function of a stock iPhone. Ridiculous is an understatement. Its gotta be one of two reasons. Either a security issue, or Apple plans on dropping a program that does it and charging users for it. I'd like to kick Jobbs in the b@lls for it...and I'm an Apple die-hard

Why are they blocking MMS in the first place?

Yeah I can seen their concern but it freakin baffles me how one of the most advanced phones doesn't offer the services the cheap *** give away phones are capable of.

From what I have gathered, the MMS Block is just the network's way of pushing the message to the online site to view it and texting you instead of sending it to your phone. ATT isnt actually blocking MMS messages completely.

uh. yea....that'd be BLOCKING MMS. If you can't get and send it from your phone, who the F cares is its being "pushed to the online site"? The whole point of MMS is to be able to send and receive it on your mobile device.

No other AT&T phone capable of MMS is blocked, and you can still view them on the site just like Verizon Wireless MMS........
Just the iPhone......so.....That would be an actual BLOCK.

Please wait for a chat representative to respond.

All representatives are currently assisting other customers. At this time, our average wait is 0 minutes and you are # 1 Thank you for your patience. A representative will be with you shortly.

Welcome to AT&T Technical Support Chat. My name is 'Cathy Brown' and I’ll be happy to assist you today.

RYAN WADE: Ok so i just talked to someone through tech support and to be honest I was just not happy with him. I buy and sell cars for a living and have had a strong need to send pictures from my phone, since my purchase of the iphone i have had to carry a digital camera and email pictures when i get back to the office. Another salesman here at my job has an iphone as well and uses his sim card in his razor which is his old phone and can send pictures with no problem.

Cathy Brown: I will be happy to assist you .

Cathy Brown: How can I assist you Mr. Wade?

RYAN WADE: I try it using my att tilt and get an error message, so I figured I could call tech support and figure out what i was doing wrong, but instead the tech support rep I talked to just told me it was not possible, and I have swaped my salesmans sim from his iphone into my tilt and can send a picture

RYAN WADE: but can not do this vice versa from my iphone to my tilt

Cathy Brown: I apologize but it is not possible to send pictures from the IPhone.

RYAN WADE: I was just curious what needed to be done , I understand that you can not mms from the iphone but there shouldnt be a reason that i cant still mms from my tilt

RYAN WADE: like i said my associate can do this no problem from his razor, and i can send pictures no problem from my tilt with his sim card from his iphone, so obviously there is something that can be done

Cathy Brown: I apologize but there is nothing that can be done.

Cathy Brown: I apologize but unfortunately if you download a 3rd party application for MMS it is not supported by AT&T and per Apple by downloading this type of software violates the iPhone software license agreement and voids the warranty. This type of download can also cause damage to the phone. If you have any questions please contact Apple at 1-800-MyiPhone (1-800-694-7466). Is there anything else of a Technical nature that I can assist you with?

RYAN WADE: I understand you can not send a mms from my iphone, and if you read my chat with you thats not what im trying to accomplish

RYAN WADE: and 3rd party applications are not downloadable on the iphone to begin with

RYAN WADE: i was refering to sending picture messages from my tilt

RYAN WADE: which i have done with a sim from my associates iphone sitting next to me and am asking what needs to be done so i can use my tilt to mms

RYAN WADE: since i see it is possible

Cathy Brown: IF you are using the same card that is listed on the account with the Iphone as the device , you will not be able to use mms with the Tilt. You will have to get a new account with the Tilt with a new SIM card.

RYAN WADE: I have to be honest I have been told this before and believed it, but after taking a sim card out of an iphone right infront of me and putting it in the tilt and sending an mms, it does not seem necessary to setup a new account, so am i to believe it is just a fluke in the system where this iphone sim was the one that they mis programmed, or that something can be changed on your end to make this happen?

RYAN WADE: I would not have an argument if I had not made this work right infront of me while your telling me this is not possible

Cathy Brown: I apologize but there is nothing that I can do to assist you .

RYAN WADE: Ok, then who should I talk to?

RYAN WADE: I appreciate your effort, but had I not seen this work with my own eyes, I'd believe you

Cathy Brown: There is no one that can change this for you , I apologize

NOT SO SIMPLE!!!!!

I talked to business support last night and they told me they can not change the account to a non iphone text plan without changing the iphone data plan.
