Unlocked 2G iphone on AT&T
My friend is with AT&T and really wants an iphone but does not want to use it with the required data plan. If she has a 2G iphone that is unlocked, will she be able to use it without having to commit to the iphone data plans? she just wants to use the phone over wifi.
Before she shells out big bucks for the device, does anyone know if AT&T will force her into the iphone plan?

She can just pop her SIM card in and go. I suggest using SB Settings or BossPrefs to disable wifi if she doesn't have the media unlimited plan.

Yes they will notice the iphone on the network (and you cant do anything about it) and will make her add the plan (eventually). Only way around is changing the IMEI on the phone, which is only possible on old firmware versions.

Yes!
Before you do the Unlock + Jailbreak using Pawnage, insert the simcard first.
Go here for Pawnage instructions
iClarified - iPhone - How to Unlock/Jailbreak Your 2.x.x 2G iPhone Using QuickPwn (Windows)
Make sure you include Cydia and Unlock option.
After you restore the iPhone with the default 2.2 firmware,
you will be asked to Activate your iPhone on iTunes.
DONT MIND THIS!
Do Not Activate!
Just go on with the Pawnage.
Then after the Pawnage, assuming you are on wifi,
Install BossPrefs from Cydia
Turn off the Edge
Do not worry about the E icon on status bar
Because it's always there.
BOOM!
There you go!
You just Unlocked + Jailbroke your iPhone
Without the Data Plan
Happy!
just like me...
