ATT Service-HORRIBLE
Hi,
I'm not sure where to begin, but I will start with a situation that happened to me at an ATT store and would appreciate your honest opinion.
I gave way by canceling my T-Mobile contract and waited at the Apple Store on the launch date for the new 3G iphone. Yes, I'm a total Apple junkie. 24" imac, new MacBook Pro that came out a couple of weeks ago..the works. Everything in my home is Apple. Hell, If they made a 63" plasma TV, I would have purchased it.
Back to my story at hand. I live in MA and I am legally blind due to having diabetes. So I have broken 3 or 4 iphones because I always forget the location on the phone and will drop it and run it over with my office chair (which happened with this one). Since I'm on a family plan, and I told my mother and sister that I was going to the ATT store to pick up a replacement iphone, they asked if I could upgrade the plan and get them a new 3G iphone....no problem.
Here's where everything comes into play. I went to the store and explained to the employee that I need 3 16GB iphone, which I knew was going to be more than 1500.00. When the employee was returning to the register with the phones, the other employee commented that "the blind bastard will probably sell them on ebay." When they ran the main number, ATT told me that I had reached my limit on purchasing iPhones and they couldn't sell me one, except for the ones I was upgrading the account on. Here's where it gets really weird. I called ATT via *611 and after speaking to a customer service rep, he transferred me to a supervisor. She told me I "could not purchase any more iphones, even though I had explained to her about my medical condition and that the 499 is an offer. She told me that the phones sell for 750.00." So, slap my *** and call me Charlie..I thought a subsidized phone was 299 for a 16GB 3G Model and that full price was 499.
I paid 1073.00 for the other phones for my mother and sister and walked out the store with a guide. The store was very unprofessional in matter. If I am paying that amount for the phones, what the hell do they care what I do with it? Not to mention I was totally embarassed by the other employees commit. the employees made comments about every customer that let the store. I feel that if your going to say something to someone, say it in front of their face.
When I came home. My domestic partner contacted our attorney. He wants to sue ATT and Apple for a large amount of money. When I contacted ATT, they wanted me to get the employees name to fire him. I don't want money, and I don't want the guy fired...maybe he has a family to support. So I'm crossed at what I should do. Of course my attorney wants to sue...He will get his pocket lined.
I'm not sure home to pursue this or if I'm even in the right place to post this..put any advise would be helpful...Thank you (sorry for any misspelled words

for each ATT number, they only allow you to buy 2-3 iphone 3g. I tried, and maxed out on my 5 lines family plan. I bought 15 iphones, and after that I couldnt buy anymore iphone 3g... Your best bet is to open a new number!
No offense, but if you cant see, how could you use the iPhone? Im curious...

That is true. How could you use the iPhone if you are blind? You say you are an apple junkie, why would you get an Apple 63' if it were available if you are blind? Anyway that comment was messed up to say. I'd still get the guy fired regardless if he had a family to support. I'd say it's too drastic to sue b/c they DO have an iPhone limit on upgrading your phone REGARDLESS of you condition. In the contract it states the LIMITATION and there is no exception just b/c you have a condition.
What does this mean? I'm not homophobic but I wanted to know if I was reading that correctly.
Anyway good luck with you issue.Last edited by gQstatus05; 11-06-2008 at 05:02 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I'm legally blind. I have no vision in my left eye and center vision in my right (no peripheral). So as long as I'm staring directly at it, I can use it. I still use a walking cane in case there is something along side of me.

I honestly don't know if I believe your story fully.
Think about it with the iPhone limits. I am prefectly fine with only being able to buy as many as phones you are qualified to add. It prevents people from putting them on Ebay and getting them in the hands of their customers. Seriously, if Apple allowed anyone to go in and buy them at retail i would have taken my credit card and bought the whole store when they launched and put them on Ebay. Stop complaining. Its business and they are worried about consumers. If you break one, you bring it in and swap it out at the subsidized price.
Also, don't call ATT. Apple and ATT are different. They pretty much know nothing about each other so your info will be limited.

wow what a crazy story. if i would have heard the guy say those things about me in the store like you said you did, i would have confronted the guy about it. like everyone else said, they put a limit on the iPhone on purpose, regardless of your needs or wants.

The iPhone purchasing rules apply to EVERYONE whether you have a medical condition or not. The fact that you break iPhones left and right is not their problem. The non-subsidized price is like $700 or more so that's just the way it is. The only comment I don't agree with was the the from the AT&T rep. That was rude.

And if the guy at the Apple store called you a "blind bastard" how does ATT's Service end up horrible?

It was at an ATT store. I spoke to several people from ATT, and Apple. No one ever told me that if I broke an iPhone, I could take it back for the subsidized price. Hell, that would be better than paying 500.00 for a new one each time.
I should have made that "ATT customer service is horrible," but what the hell. Let's face it..anyone remember when the phone first came out...the thing dropped calls like crazy. Dont be an as*hole boxxa
Oh yeah, on the 63" Apple TV comment...I went out and bought a new 63" TV and if Apple would have sold a flat screen model that big, I would have bought it from Apple.

It will be tough for you to sue when they have already offered to fix the situation (fire the guy). Also, regardless of your medical condition, the company has a policy to maintain. Unless you talk to the upper-ups you will get no change. I am sure you are honest but imagine how many people COULD just go in and keep buying phones for $500 claiming they had a medical issue. Completely unrelated to this... I had some klipsche speakers that died that I bought from Best Buy about 12 months prior to them breaking. Klipshe told me Best Buy would replace under manufacturers warranty, Best Buy said no. Long story short it took 4 different phone calls to get the thing replaced, and 3 different trips to Best Buy with some heavy speakers. Point being, the worker just needs to follow company policy, regardless of the circumstances... this does not, however, make it right for the person to have said those things about you. Really, I would get him fired. maybe he does have a family to feed, but if he needs the money that badly, he shouldn;t be risking his job by spouting ignorant slander.
Pardon my asking, but curiosity has got the best of me (even though I kknow the question may be rude)...
I know legally blind doesn't mean totally blend, per se, but you said you are blind enough to destroy iPhones by running them over due to not being able to see where they are. How, then, are you able to enjoy a fancy tv?Last edited by sziklassy; 11-07-2008 at 10:03 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

I would say their service is pretty spectacular if they're giving you 4 or 5 replacements phones cos you broke them. If you didn't keep breaking phones and getting replacements maybe the prices would come down for the rest of us, or those who want to buy pay-and-go

How am I an ******* becuase I asked you how the Apple store worker as you claimed made fun of you and what that had to do with ATT sucking?
Seriously. Dont break your phone. The first thing I did when I got my iPHone was call ATT and ask them if I broke it what happens and the told me "You need to buy a new one at retail."
Don't say the company sucks becuase you break phones weekly. Personally, if you are so accident prone, maybe you should look into a JitterBug phone and stop complaining about the iPhone and ATT.

I followed this thread from the first post. First not sure why we need to know about you having a domestic partner. Second I do not understand why special consideration needs to be given because you have broken a number of phones.
Also, there is most likely a best buy near every major shopping area, why not go there and purchase the insurance policy for $15 a month. It's cheaper than having to buy a new phone every other day.
Not that I condone what the accused employee said, but having worked retail I can definitely related to his feelings, as customers thing the person behind the counter or working the floor can bend the rules.
Best of luck with your pursuit of customer bliss.Last edited by bruinsrme; 11-08-2008 at 07:25 AM.
