some people were actually complaining about this on the 2G using TMO... I on the other hand have no delay (well no more than nomral, of under 30 seconds)

I broke up with my girlfriend over this delay.

I have seen it on my 3g to some people on verizon and also 1st gen iphones to verizon. We were doing some tests on T-Mo people too and some saw delays.

It has nothing to do with the phone you are using. The text message goes from your handset into the server queue immediately... then sits there in line until it gets delivered to another handset on the same carrier OR transferred to another providers server.... THEN must wait in that queue to be delivered on the other end. Sometimes this process takes 10 seconds... sometimes it takes HOURS! It just depends on how backed up the servers are.

Didn't any of you see Poseidon's post? Its the servers. On the iPhone screen it shows a progress bar, which could or could not be accurate however, as to how far along your phone is to sending the text. The server of your provider is the problem you are having. You could just live in a very densely populated area.

The same thing happens to me. Seems to be AT@T to Verizon for me. I have even switched phones and txted and same results. I can say that it is pretty annoying. I do seem to have found a way around it.
I made a aim name and went on aim and added the people I txted to a lot and added their numbers. Then I aim-txted their phones from aim. Then I set it up so that when I am offline the txts just go to my phone. So I would aim there mobiles then get off. So when they txted me back it would go to aim then my phone.
It may seem like this would take longer but I sent a txt to my friend just phone to phone and one from the aim way and the aim way got there in the matter of 30 seconds where the other one took up to 10 minutes. If you want to try this method and need me to explain it more just let me know
First thing you need to do is set up your aim.
You need to make an account if you don't already have one.
Then you need to set up mobile forwarding.
This will make it so that if your offline and people IM you it will go to your phone
It will look something along these lines

depending on what aim you are using.
You will put in your number and then aim will send you a text with a code in it.
Put that code into your aim and then when people try and IM you when your off it will go to your mobile.
Now you have to add someone's number to your buddy list. There is many ways to do this. If you have a big problem doing this then I could help. Usually it is pretty easy.
Should look something like this
Then you im the numbers that you want to txt and then get offline before they txt you back. It will get sent to your phone and will look like this

If you save this number then you can txt it anytime you want.
Trust me this works. Anyone that uses Verizon I do this with.Last edited by [email protected]; 10-21-2008 at 09:42 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

Yeah I've been having the same problem. My girlfriend would send me a text and then yell at me because I never responded. Luckily they always come in when I'm with her so she could see I'm not dodging the bullet. Haven't had time to call. I also have delays with my MMSs. I can send fine but when people send me an MMS it comes in later. I can't call in for that since iPhone is "supposedly not an MMS phone" I'll suck that one up though.
