Default Need plan/phone advice, need to switch to AT&T from Tmobile

Hi all. I have an unlocked 1st gen iPhone thta I used QuickPwn to unlock on 2.1. I just moved and in my new place the signal I get with T-Mobile jumps from full bars to no signal all the time. I hate to switch to AT&T but this signal problem isn't acceptable. My fiance has no problem with AT&T signal here so I need to switch and have a few questions.

    1) Since I need a new plan it will come with a phone. What phone should I get that will have a compatible plan so I can use EDGE internet and calling features? Blackberry? Any specific models? I'll obviously just sell the phone I get with my service.

    2) will AT&T know I switch to Iphone on a non iphone plan? Do i need to install software to block them from seeing?

    3) Do I need to unlock my iphone via a different method to use on AT&T?

    4) I keep reading threads that say you can add internet for $15, but I dont see that on AT&T. Its $30. How do i get a cheaper data plan?

I need to order my new phone service within 24-48 hours so I appreciate your replies. Any other thoughts or concerns to help an Iphone hacker from the beginning would be very helpful. Thanks so much.

i'm not too sure what to tell you other than i was running a 2G iphone on 2.1 FW with tmobile and recently sold it and got the 3G with at&t. i've never been happier and the service i think is a lot better than it ever was with tmobile. the phone is running smooth and i live in baltimore so there's 3G access all over. i wish i'd had made the switch a lot earlier. needless to say that i'm still jailbreaking and running back end apps but the service and the 3G phone are worlds better than my 2G with tmobile.

    that's just my 2 cents.

I was on the same boat as you, 1st gen iPhone on T-Mobile. I talked to an AT&T manager and they said that I could use my 1st gen iPhone(or any unlocked GSM phone) and I wouldn't have to sign a two year contract. He said they just started doing this I believe this year he said. If you really want the 3G, I would check to see if it's in your area first or if it's coming to even make it worth while to get the 3G. As far as data on your iPhone, I don't know for sure if you could get by with the old data plan fprice of $20if you do decide to use your 1st gen iPhone. I would just call AT&T and ask them, they'll help.

Thanks for the ideas. I really want to have a non iphone service plan, since 3G is more expensive and i have a 1st gen iphone. I also would like to get a free blackberry. Obviously i want my iphone to stay unlocked too so I want to get a compatible plan. HELP!!!!!

Sign up with AT&T... get whatever phone you want. Your plan should be the regular rate plan plus the $15 media max for unlimited data. Put your SIM card in your iphone and away you go. You will not have visual voice mail.

They would eventually find out. I first used a Blackjack II with AT&T and I took the sim out of there and put it in my old iphone and the internet didn't work. So I just took the AT&T sim out the iphone and put it back in my Blackjack II and then the internet didn't work on it. They had to change some things on their end. They're still trying to address the issue where if you take ur sim and put it in an iphone and then back into the other phone, your data will not work. And even then the PDA personal data plan for the blackjack still ran me $30. Rip off.
