Ok so im am kind of confused. Ive been all over the forums and trying to unlock/jailbreak my iphone. I bought a iphone from my friend and i want to put it on a ATT pay as you go plan. Do i need to unlock/jailbreak? or can i just pop the pay as you go sim into the phone?

Depends on the version of the phone. If it's a 3g then no you don't need to unlock, just pop in the paygo sim and that's it. If it's a 2g then you need to unlock it.

yes it is a 2g. For some reason i cannot unlock it with pwnage. I get error 1600. Is there a better way or thread. Ive looked for hours. thanks for ur help!

also have firmware 2.1 on it currently but its locked with my buddies accont

what is your firmware, your OS, itunes version, and pwnage version?

firmware 2.1, Mac OS Leopard Intel chipset, itunes 8, pwnage 2.1

Try pwning again and not putting it in DFU mode, just restore mode and then restore it.

but when you pwn doesnt it make you put into DFU mode? how do i get out of doing that? Also i only got the custom restore when i had 2.0. When i pwn now i get to screen where it asks for the bootloaders and it says that i dont have 3.9. Ived tried various 3.9's but it wont work.

uninstall your pwnage and reinstall a new one and check the SHA1 sums, to make sure it's official dev-team software. There are problems with boot-loaders on hacked versions of Pwnage. All you have to do is close pwnage after it builds your firmware, then put it in restore mode and restore through iTunes.

how do you put it into restore mode?

ok so new pwnage doest work either. wont load 3.9

waitttt finally got it to create custom .ispw. Not all of the file was in my pwnage folder.
