    Default i need a little at&t help

so my cousins bought my uncle a preowned unlocked 1.1.4 iphone for his birthday and he passed it onto me to get it working with his sim. he currently has at&t but no data plan. he only uses his phone for phone calls. i plan on updating to 2.0.x but i read that w/ winpwn, i shouldnt activate the phone because it's with at&t. is there a way to use the phone without a data plan?

yes but you should have him get the data plan for it because people have racked up huge bills since the iPhone is a data monster. they will know it's an iPhone too because of your imei and they will force you to get one.

    thanks for your reply.

I sorta suspected that at&t would do something like force him to get a data plan so I just told him that he's better off getting another phone if he's not going to use the iphone for what it's for.

yeah it is possible to use without the data plan but it is constantly using data and itll rack up a huge amount of dollars worth. he can probably sell it and get a phone better suited to his needs. sell it on ebay you can get good money off it. =] hope it helped

If he thinks he will just use wifi, he can turn off Edge to be safe.

i thought of that but i know that sometimes when you reboot it the edge block resets as well and that could cost a lot since you might forget about it being reseted and what not. it creates a big headache to have to keep checking it especially since her uncle plans on using it just as a phone
