Upgrading to 3G...

Sorry, I've been out of the loop the past few weeks and have a few questions about upgrading to the 3G phone. I currently have the 8GB iPhone that I got back in February. I understand that If I want the new 3G I need to buy one at my AT&T and they adjust my monthly rates and extend my contract. What about my current iPhone? Can I sell that one on eBay but just take out my sim card and put it in my new phone? How does that work? Sorry if I sounds ridiculous, but if you could help me out that would be great. Thanks!

yeah you can do that. just restore all settings so none of your personal info is on it, then you can re jailbreak and/or unlock it
