Data rate plans
I'm hoping there will be some options for iPhone data rate plans. Currently AT&T has specific plans for blackberry but most other smartphone/pda plans vary from $9.99 to $44.99.
I've read the rumors on a $30 data plan for iPhone but that starts making it pretty expensive for a 2 year contract. If they are going to limit the data plan options I hope they'll at least offer a rebate like they do with most other smartphone/data plan bundles.

I'm quite certain it will have its own rateplan, they're outfitting stores with wifi for the launch, they'll probably have a dedicated data plan, but I bet it'll be compatible with mediamax like the Blackjack and 8525. probably 19.99 no text slightly higher that a smartphone max if it doesn't have its own it'll be 19.99 with 1500 texts like the smartphone max

I'm curious about this myself. I already have a PDA data plan that came with my Samsung Blackjack and if they come up with a cheaper plan for the iphone I may try to switch to that plan.

I've heard rumors of a $40/mo + data plan. I hope the rumors are not true, that's double what I pay now for unlimited data

Hmm. An EiP user received this email from AT&T:
Could this mean multiple data plans? Or are they just talking about extra plans such as insurance, etc in the future......"You will need a data rate plan. At launch we will have more
information on the compatible plans for the iPhone as well as
accessories that will be sold separately. At this time We would
recommend that you visit us online at
http://www.wireless.att.com/cell-pho...als/iPhone.jsp
and register by providing your name and e-mail address so you will be
notified once the Apple iPhone is available.
AT&T and Apple are very excited about the new iPhone and hope you are
too!
Please visit our web-site at http://www.att.com/wireless for the latest
updates and promotions available. We know you have a choice when it
comes to wireless service. We appreciate and thank you for choosing
AT&T, since January of 2003!
Sincerely,

Yah, true. And it IS going to be a very "connected" device. So unlimited makes the most sense.

Wow, $400 for 6MB overage... is that true? I don't have any data plan (or any need for one) currently. I guess unlimited would be the only way to be sure you could actually 'use' the phone at any given time when away from WiFi if the data is so integrated into iPhone's operation.
