    Default iPhone 5S Tmobile version
Anyone got this or is getting this? I am about to order one online. Apples site says its unlocked but mentioned overseas. When I asked apple if it would work locally with AT&T they wouldn't give me a straight answer. Are the internals the same in the Tmobile and AT&T one?

When a new iPhone model comes out, Apple has a tendency of releasing carrier locked models first. Then, after a couple of months, it would sell the world (factory unlocked) version.

Based on a carrier's request, Apple can unlock for international travel, but locked on domestic such as Sprint/Verizon unlocked iPhones. So, most likely the T-mobile 5s that you're buying will work with any international gsm carriers, but will not work with AT&T, etc.

Here is the info on Unlocked iPhone 5S:

    1. If you buy an AT&T iphone at FULL RETAIL PRICE (i.e. unlocked price) at the APPLE STORE (or online @apple.com), it is CONTRACT-FREE and FACTORY UNLOCKED

    2. If you buy a T-Mobile iphone at the APPLE STORE (or online @apple.com), it is CONTRACT-FREE and is FACTORY UNLOCKED

    3. If you buy a T-Mobile iphone at a T-MOBILE STORE (or [email protected]) at the FULL RETAIL PRICE, it is CONTRACT-FREE, but remains locked to T-Mobile

I think this is where perhaps I may have gotten confused as when I spoke to the Apple rep, I was buying a contract free, unlocked iPhone (as I always do) and use T-Mo as my carrier in the U.S...
The way I interpreted his explanation was my mistake. I must have been trippin' lol

The main thing I was concerned with was HSPA (3G) support for my carrier since I am technically getting the t-mobile version. Looking up the radio specs it seems I am fine though as all the 5S models support my carriers 3G frequency (same as ATT 850).

Sorry guys, I had to update part 1:

I confirmed it using a T-Mobile sim card on my 5s ATT (paid FULL RETAIL) and it worked.

    Sorry for the confusion.

FYI: If you were told by Apple employees that Apple does not offer unlocked iphone 5s, only contract-free, they are wrong and are misinformed. They just want to keep this on a low-down due to shortage supplies.

HA, so I was correct in my stupid reasoning, go figure!?!?!?
For me me, it was about getting an unlocked iPhone with capability of 4G/LTE speeds, so I asked about the Model A1532

Speaking of Tmobile 5S's, have people started to receive their orders? I know patience is a virtue, but my girlfriend is bugging the hell out of me.

She ordered on 9/20 @ 08:00 at a Tmobile store which didn't physically receive even one 5S. They ordered it for her and it was immediately on back-order. Gold model 16gb. I see some carriers are projecting into November, but her order was placed through the carrier right when they opened. Now they're saying that they're getting more stock in this Wednesday, but it would be their 3rd "guesstimate".

I guess I'm looking for somebody in the same boat to cope.

    Thanks in advance.

I ordered mine around the same time (Factory Unlocked, T-Mobile) through the Apple Store, and received confirmation that it will be delivered this Thursday 10/10 if that's any help to you. Can't wait.

Can't really say it helps, but I definitely appreciate your feedback I've been through each and every iPhone launch, so my take-away after 7 years is just go to the Apple Store.

I stood in line on launch day (at my Apple Store as I do every year), made it in, but inventory was so short and didn't want to settle on a color or capacity I wanted so I chose to order through Apple Store.

From what I have read and heard from others is that T-Mo stores had very limited supplies, and if you wanted Gold, they were the first to go. I chose a Silver 64GB model.
Best of luck, hope it arrives soon for you.
