Hi, I have an iPhone 4 BB 1.59. I used a guide to upgrade to ios 5.0.1 with redsn0w but iTunes tells me now that the sim inserted is not valid (I'm using a T-mobile sim, I thought redsnow hacktivated?). How can I get around this? At the very least can I downgrade? I used a custom ipsw that preserved my BB so I should be good there...

If you used redsn0w to make a custom ipsw thats good because you preserved your baseband.
However, that does NOT mean that you are now unlocked.
You need to turn off the phone, and run redsn0w and jailbreak it, which will also hacktivate it (meaning activate it without an official carrier sim card so the phone will open up to homescreen).
After that you can unlock with ultrasn0w.
And you can only downgrade to a previous ios if you have shh saved.

Thanks so much! I think the guide I was using simply assumes you have an official sim in or something haha. Jailbroken and unlocked now!
