i think you'll be fine. i did something similar to what your doing. but i have an IMEI unlocked ip4 updated to 5.0.1 with baseband is 4.11.08. i verified it with an active t-mobile sim and followed the steps from this link

worked like a charm. i was able to send mms, group text, browse internet (very slow on edge) and make a facetime call

Add http://beta.leimobile.com/repo/ to your cydia sources and Install the T-Mobile 4.0 MMS fix, then reboot

Add this to your Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network
    MMS
    APN: epc.tmobile.com
    Username:
    Password:
    MMSC: http://mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc
    MMS Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
    MMS Max Message Size: 1048576
    MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf

After entering these settings, I Sent and Received an MMS. I then restarted the iPhone 4.

After restarting, once again go to Settings>General>Network>Cellular Data Network
    Internet
    APN: internet2.voicestream.com

EDGE will work, and you can restart your phone again and see that all is still well. Turning WIFI on or off will have no effect.
FYI: I'm on the $20 a month unlimited Blackberry Internet plan from T-Mobile

Thank you. Does anyone know if THIS plan will work or not? I know I won't get 4g, just want to know if it will work. Thanks!

some areas of the country, T-Mobile is testing 1900Mhz 3G. if your lucky that's your area. else, ATT has 1900Mhz which works on GSM iphones

Pacific Northwest, Nevada, Utah and California are the spots as of right now that are getting 3G data from TMobile on their iPhones.
