How to run 3G data on iphone with t-mobile?
I did not think it was possible to run data at 3G speeds on an iphone with t-mobile (I thought only edge was possible). But, this guy runs 3G data on his phone (see 2:40):

How do you enable 3G data on your iphone with t-mobile? ... When I try to turn it on, I just lose my carrier altogether.
Background info- I have an iphone 3G on ios 4.0 unlocked with ultrasn0w. My data plan is the "T-mobile total internet", which uses the following APN: "internet2.voicestream.com". See http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/T-Mobile_APNsLast edited by weaksos1; 04-13-2011 at 11:23 PM.

It is a hardware issue so you can't run T-Mobile 3G. Can't see the video while at work so not sure what he is showing.
The 3G frequencies are different between ATT and T-mobile.

I can look when I get home to see the vid. You can easily replace Edge image to make it look like 3G. Or be on wifi and replace the wifi image to be 3G symbol.
Or could replace the ATT image and put T-Mobile in there.

That is definitely fake. I use a T-Mobile sim, and know for a fact that 3G absolutely does not work in the iPhone with a T-Mobile sim card. The person in that video is probably using his regular carrier, and changed the name of the carrier to T-Mobile with "Fake Carrier" from Cydia.

It is because it is the UK T-Mobile. They use different frequency than US T-Mobile.
They use one that the iPhone is able to use to get 3G. I think O2 does unlocks so not fully sure why this guy paid more to unlock it in an odd way than just get a legit unlock from O2.

Thanks.
You guys think we will be able to get 3G speeds on t-mobile once the AT&T and t-mobile merger is complete.. I read that t-mobile intends to remain an independently run company for those of us that have contracts with t-mobile already, but that we will get the benefit of AT&T network (in addition to the t-mobile network). Does that mean that t-mobile users will be able to run AT&T 3G? (Speculation with some type of reasoning is welcome.)

The plans that I am reading or have been following. Is that if the deal is cleared ATT will not even begin to move T-Mobile user till about 12 months.
After that point they will start moving T-Mobile users to the ATT 3G, probably by upgrading to ATT 3G devices. After that point they will begin taking people off T-Mobile's 3G frequency.
After that frequency is cleared they will use it as ATT's LTE frequency because ATT lost the bid for new frequencies when the goverment sold some.
