Default Question about upgrading T-Mobile 3G iphone!

im currently jailbroken and unlocked on Tmobile with the iphone 3G, with 3.1.2 and FW 5.11.07

i am wondering what is the highest bb and fw i can upgrade to with no problems at all. i dont need the absolute highest with a lot of work put into making it work, im just looking for the best working upgrade. and how would i do this?

also, will this restore my phone to like new again? or is there any way i can do the upgrades without losing any of my apps, videos, photos etc.? i know in my past upgrades ive had to sacrifice everything to do this, just wondering if times have changed ;]

first get AppBackup from cydia and create your backup of all in-app data.

now create a backup of your phone in itunes.

next, get a custom 4.2.1 firmware to preserve your 5.11.07 baseband, since unlocking the stock 4.2.1 baseband has too many negative side effects.

you will be losing everything on this next step but will get it back by way of iTunes and appbackup.

once you shift restore to the custom 4.2.1, then disconnect from iTunes and setup (complete upgrade) cydia and install ********** and AppBackUp.

finally restore from your backup in iTunes, (leave it hooked up after it reboots, it will sync your apps) and run AppBackUp last, to get all your data back.

    hope this helps!

    accept my apology.
didn't realise it was a bad word until it was censored.

I'll keep that in mind, however, for the future.

Really? That sux. I need to upgrade too. I read that 4.1 actually is better? I need some apps that are requiring FW 3. 1. 4 the next one up from 3. 1. 3 is 4. X. Xx but I know 4. 0 sux on 3g. Anyone have anything to say about 4. 1?

Exclamation Dont upgrade to 4.x.x on your 3g!!!

I went from a 3g to 3gs and now Iphone4 and I can tell you from experience STAY WHERE YOU ARE! Your phone will be incredibly sluggish and you will regret leaving 3.1.2 My advice to you is to sell your 3g and step up to a 3gs ..It is a night and day difference and you will wonder how you put up with the slow speed of a 3g. If you do get a 3g make sure you get one which baseband wasnt upgraded to 6.15..Try and get one with a regular unlocked baseband..hope this helps..

Ah, I need more input here. I have a 2G and a broken (SIM card holder doesn't work--it eats SIM cards) 3G. I jailbroke my 2G a coupla years ago, and it has always worked fine with iTunes etc. But I'm ready for a newer version and I need advice about which phone to buy for success with T-Mobile.

You say I should get a 3GS and NOT a 4, right? And if I buy on eBay, and get 16GB, how much should it cost. And, I wanted to find a jailbroken/unlocked phone, but you suggest not to? Or, at least not one upgraded to version 6.15. I'm a little confused here and would love some more input and advice.

And is it the consensus of T-Mobile users that 3GS is best?

    Thanks.
