500 talk/unlimited txt/no web. If wifi switches off, will I be charged for using EDGE?

I have some Apps that are a little suspect, some times they force WiFi to not work. But when I used to have AT&T, 3G would be there to back up WiFi in case it went out.

Will EDGE just not work if I don't have the service? Or will I get charged $$$ per mb/kb or something ridiculous like that?

On the T-Mobile network, what speed would you say EDGE is at? 200kb/s?

200 in a good day with full bars. I'd say I average 170-180.
