Default iPhone and T-Mobile plan confusion. Old posts, new posts, back and forth!

I really want to make the move to T-Mobile soon. I'm finding a lot of posts are older and any more the newer posts conflict with each other. As if certain plans or features are hit and miss.

I have an iPhone 3G, 3.1.2, jailbroken and unlocked. I am not new to that scene when it comes to using my phone with China Mobile. T-Mobile is a different story. Additionally I am a new customer to T-Mobile and hopefully can apply my Federal/DoD discount on top of all of this.
A relative has T-Mobile, although I am not sure I could possibly add a line with 'no contract' to their service.

In short... I am in and out of the states so this is why I am here asking for help with this confusion.

What setup do I go with for the smallest amount of talk minutes, unlimited data + unlimited text without a contract for the cheapest price? 3G is ideal however not ultimately necessary. I've read conflicting stories about 3G/Edge usage for the iPhone on T-Mobile's network as well.

Some people are saying the t-zone plan is no longer available. Some say to keep trying. This and that! It's really a tossing story from what I've read and I would genuinely appreciate it if someone currently using T-Mobile on their iPhone can take the time to respond.

Thanks in advance for the help!!!

I suppose what I am looking at right now is...

Even More Plus 500 Talk + Text $39.99
    T-Mobile SIM Card (free)
    Unlimited Web (web2go) $10.00
    Total $49.99/month

So long as I can use all my apps and safari with web2go. This is at least $10 cheaper than the EM+ 500 plan with everything on it for $59.00/mo. Although I'd still be happy to hear of anything better

What you've worked out plan-wise will work.
