iPhone with G1 data plan
I have a G1 with the $34.99 G1 unlimited web and unlimited messages data plan. I am considering purchasing an unlocked 16gb iPhone 3g and was wondering if the internet, e-mail, text messaging, picture messaging and all that would work with that plan. I know I won't be able to use 3g but will everything else work with the edge network, and will I receive the edge signal with the G1 data plan? Any help would be great!

Yes, everything will work (not 3G of course).
Check out the carrier bundle thread (stickied at the top) for more information.
The bundle you'll want to use is T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid (found in Cydia or downloadable from the thread).
If you really wanted to save money, you could get rid of your G1 plan and purchase Web2Go ($19.99 for unlimited data and text).
Best thing to do is call T-Mobile from a landline and make the change. You could always give them the excuse that you're changing your phone to a Motorola RAZR.
Any issues, post in the carrier bundle thread using the "Asking for Help Format."

If you really really want to save money change your phone to a tmobile shadow on your mytmobile page and select the 10 dollar unlimited shadow web. If you do that and upload spookey's legacy bundle from the post with the sticky you'll be surfing at the same speed as that 35 or 20 dollar plan! The trick is to avoid calling customer care from the iphone or they'll catch you. Use another phone you have, a wife's, friend's, or a landline with customer service questions.

True true...Shadow plan works best for me because I have family unlimited texting. I guess it depends on your setup.

Sorry if this is a newb question but can you provide or message me Step-by-Step on how to change my G1 data plan into the Web2Go? Do I install the TMobile bundle on Cydia and then go onto t-mobile.com to switch the g1 data plan to the $19.99 web2go?
Please and thanks! I would really appreciate the help.

Make sure you don't use that G1 again because they will detect it and most likely force you back to the G1 plan.
Call from a landline telephone and tell them you changed phones to a Motorola RAZR or some other non smartphone. Also make sure you're G1 contract is up. If not, they will most likely tell you the G1 data plan is a part of your contract and any changes would constitute a contract change/cancellation. This will lead to an ETF (early termination fee).

no they told me that for the g1 contract, you can cancel the data plan without and fees. that's probably because i bought the g1 from a buddy. im currently using a G1 with the G1 data plan, waiting for my sim card tray to arrive then i'll switch my plan to the web2go. web2go is unlimited data and text? for 20 bucks?

Another question: I'm currently using my iPhone with the G1 Data Plan as I type. Do I have to download anything off Cydia? Or just leave it as is since everything from texting, e-mail to web is working fine? Just curious if I'm going to get charged extra..

What iPhone do you have? What firmware?
If you're not on 3.1.2, backup your data with iTunes and restore to 3.1.2.
Afterwards, jailbreak, unlock, and read the carrier bundle thread.
Apply the specific patches and install the "T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid" bundle from Cydia.
Make sure to follow the "Methods of Installation" instructions in the thread.
Any issues, post in that thread using the "Asking for Help Format."

I have the 2G iPhone on the 3.1.2 firmware. My previous phone was a G1 with the unlimited data/text.
I still have to go about making changes even though everything is working perfectly? Again, sorry for the newbie questions! =/
Also, I've noticed the APN I've been using and haven't had any problems is the one for T-Mobile Postpaid/Flexpaid LEGACY. Should i change it to the one you're suggesting or leave as is?Last edited by SoleAddict23; 01-31-2010 at 12:33 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
