01-20-2010, 11:26 PM #1T-Mobile Prepaid Sidekick Data Plan
I have read countless posts and other threads relating to this topic but the answers still remain blurry and contradicting. My question is if it is possible in ANYWAY to receive data (browse web, etc) by using the sidekick prepaid data plan. From VPNs, proxies, iphonesidekick.co.cc, carrier bundles, internet2.voicestream.com, etc. NOTHING has worked for me. My hope is that this thread will provide a definitive answer or solution to this question. Anyways, I will describe my experiences below:
After using free and paid VPNs (from VPNaccounts.com) and even my own VPN server off my mac, I have had very little luck using them. Although I have configured the VPNs perfectly on my iPhone, the VPN server is "unreachable" from my iPhone on edge. However, the VPN does works consistently on wifi...
I have tried both the free version and paid version of the proxy offered by iphonesidekick.co.cc with no success. The website offers .mobileconfigs that install network profiles (presumably changing the APN and installing a proxy) however this method simply returns "Cannot Open Page". I have wanted to try the T-Zones hack just for fun but due to its extinction and difficulty to obtain/install, I have not tried it.
Although it is mentioned that the prepaid sidekick carrier bundle available on cydia is not a fix for data, I tried it anyways to no avail.
internet2.voicestream.com and other APNs
Along with every other APN I use, internet2.voicestream.com is no different from others. For some reason, I am able to access google.com with several APNs, but no other websites or apps that I know of. I have tried t-mobile/tzones and CNN and ABC again to no avail.
So is the prepaid sidekick data plan virtually impossible at this point? If not, is anybody using an iPhone with the prepaid sidekick plan and can browse the web and recieve data? Regardless I look forward to everybody's suggestions. Thanks!!!

I am using the sidekick plan right now and it works great! I am using the iphonesidekick.co.cc guy's stuff. I have had no problems with it at all. The only thing that doesn't work is gmail using the exchange server method for using push and Youtube won't work. Looks like they are forcing the app to use port 80. Other that that it has worked great. Have you tried emailing the guy at that site? I had a few issues at first but he was very responsive and help me through them.

Have you checked with T-Mobile? Lots of the iPhoneSideKick.Co.Cc users simply don't have internet on their SideKick plans. This is possibly due to Microsoft's "Hickup" a few months back. Uninstall everything (proxies, VPN's, etc...) and see if your E-Mail works. Your E-Mail should work without any mods. If it doesn't work call T-Mobile and say you aren't getting any connection at all.

about the iphonesidekick.co.cc
anyone have any detailed instructions about setting this up? What you have to have beforehand. I think the major problem is no one wants to say or publish the steps to setting this up, at leat I havent found it even on the iphonesidekick.co.cc site.
Just need to know:
Do you need to have a sidekick prepaid sim card? Can you use a regular T-mobile phone SIM?
You have to have an internet plan with T-mobile, which one is cheapest that has been proven to work?
thank you in advance.

There are many APN, I work for T-Mobile. Have you tried wap.voicestream.com? Have you tried the new one epc.tmobile.com? I have been able to use the Sidekick service with the iPhone so it is possible.
Also make sure your turning on data roaming when you try any T-Mobile APN since it's not AT&T. Few data plans that work are BB or G1 24.99 APN is wap.voicestream.com for either.

The free iPhone sidekick link does not work. I experimented with prepaid sidekick on my 2G iPhone and got e-mail to work but of course no Web. I wonder if IM (AIM, etc) works like the sidekick service suggests.
http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/T-Mobile_Data describes that only 25, 110, 143, 465, 993, 995 ports are available. I would like to try my own proxy server.

Here is the link:
F R E E - I P H O N E * S I D E K I C K - CO - CC
I took the site down for a while but its back up now. This will tell you how to break out of the tmobile pre-paid bubble and get every port you want working (as long as your proxy allows it).
You can also use all of the proxy servers from iphonesidekick.co.cc for free if you just know which servers he uses.

Just like the error says "directory not found" you need to create the directory:
csquid\var exists but you need to create the cache directory

I wanted to say thank you for this. worked like a charm. I setup my own proxy with squid then made sure i was on the sidekick plan and used your config from the site and it worked like a champ. I listened to Pandora in the car while me and tha fam cruised the town. If you can think of any optimized things for the squid config let us know. this is truly the best solution to this from what I have seen. I seem to get a good speed from what I can see. when I am at my house I get 1 or 2 bars though so it isn't the best but I can use wifi at home. I am waiting for my iphone to have the baseband unlocked and then it will be back in action. Hopefully that will be released in the next couple of days and then I will see what it is like on 2 iphones using my same proxy.

I too have problems with YouTube and some other apps that seem to ignore proxy settings, which is a shame.
For those who can't set up their own proxy server, you can use Opera Mini to at least browse the web, as it uses its own SOCKS proxy servers.

was wondering if anyone else using there own proxy for sidekick plan was able to get youtube to work? I was playing with it and I cant seem to get it to work but I know nothing about how the proxy server stuff works on my PC. I was reading on google and some say that youtube app uses a different port then 80 and this could be why it isn't working. I know it is possible to make it work since they have it working on the pay version of "http://iphonesidekick.co.cc/paid/" with the private proxy. Any ideas on how this might be achieved?
