Default Help - Unable To Make Phone Calls Or Receive Calls - Text Not Working

I just purchased an unlocked iphone. I can not make or receive calls. It just "pretends" to dial and then nothing happens. My text messaging is not great either. Sometimes I can send texts sometimes I can't.

What do I need to do in order to be able to USE my expensive paper weight as a phone

First with your phone plugged in, go to the info tab, and sync whatever you want saved onto your computer.

    download blackra1n from blackra1n.com

go into itunes, and hit restore, to restore your phone to 3.1.2 (it will take a while to download everything)
once your phone is restored, the phone will be at the activation screen (slide for emergency)
close out of itunes, and open blackra1n on your computer.
    Click make it ra1n
    let it do its thing.
Once your phone restarts again, you will be at your home screen.
Go into your settings, general, network, and turn off 3g.
slide over to the blackra1n icon.
    click cydia, and hit install
Once its done installing cydia, open blackra1n again if it isn't open.
Then click unlock and hit install.
it will say thank you for using blackra1n etc etc. just hit close.
now to get everything set in stone, just go to settings, general, reset, and go to reset all network settings.
Your phone will restart, and hopefully if all goes well, you should have a clean running t-mobile 3g.
Now just open cydia, (it will load, and then you'll have to install the essencial upgrades)
click search, and search for "t-mobile", scroll down a little and you will see t-mobile carrier bundle, download and install the first one. (if your using a normal phone plan, if your using a blackberry plan or something, read the info's to find the right one for you.)

    and thats it.
One last thing, be sure to setup as new phone and manually sync the stuff you want.

Good luck, everything is pretty str8 foward, if you want a picture tutorial to follow, search for one on iclarified.com

(your lucky i just got a new computer, and felt like seeing how fast I can type, i usually would have just said search lol)

Thank you for the response. I am really fustrated about this phone at the moment. It will pick up my Tmobile network but when I try to make a call it sounds like nothing, not even a dial tone. Then when it does make a call the person can only hear me for a minute or two. Since this is my first Iphone (normally use blackberry) I am nervous about really messing it up.

But I am glad that you used my thread to test out how quickly you can type

There isn't much you can do to damage the actual phone. As long as you don't mess with it while its doing its thing. I've seen people brick their phones on some pretty stupid stuff though, phone falling while its restoring, closing the lid on the laptop while its restoring, doing other things on the computer and causing it to crash while its restoring, etc. etc.
What i'm saying is, as long as you just leave the phone alone, and just leave the computer alone, everything should be fine. It does a check before it actually restores, so if it feels there is a bad connection in the wire, or the usb port isn't the right type, or anything like that, it will give you an error code, which you'd then have to post online.

The problem about buying those phones previously unlocked, is that most of the people just check to see if it catches the t-mobile signal, and sell it as an unlocked phone, and who knows what program or how they unlocked it.

It'll be best to just restore, and follow what i posted above, its pretty simple, and if the phone still gives you issues after that, it might be a hardware issue.
The only thing I ask in return for helping, is that you click the thanks button, Thanks!
