Any benfits of preserving 04.26.08? OR just update it?
iPhone 3GS
T-MOBILE
I have a 3gs, still on version 3.0 and 04.26.08 firmware.
Is it worth it to upgrade to 3.1.2 with the 05.11.07 firmware?
I've read that for those who are still on 04.26.08, to keep that due to the permanent lock issue, however, isn't that now irrelevant because you can now downgrade back to 04.26.08 anyway, let alone the ability to now unlock with the latest firmware. What should I do?
Is there any reason why I'd want to stay on my current 04.26.08? Any advantages? - OR- should I just re-jailbreak to 3.1.2 and unlock with ultrasnow?
Thanks in advance. Happy Holidays!

The baseband can't be downgraded (only the OS), so if you mistakenly update past OS 3.1.2 (and past either the 4.26.08 or 5.11.07 baseband version) without using pwnage tools, you can lose your unlock.
IMO, I'd stay on the 4.26.08 baseband as long as possible. There's no assurance GeoHot will continue supporting the 5.11 unlock on Cydia after 3.whatever comes out (he dropped support of the 4.26.08 unlock Purplesn0w after RC2, while the Dev Team continues to support the equivalent Ultrasn0w unlock), and there are still people seeing Wifi and other issues with GeoHot's latest version of the 5.11.07 unlock, Blacksn0w. So, it might be a good idea to just update to 3.1.2 using pwnage, retaining the 4.26.08 baseband w/ Ultrasn0w unlock solution, and wait for the Dev Team to let you know when you should update the OS and/or baseband.Last edited by GenesisDH; 12-21-2009 at 04:48 PM. OP is saying he has a 3GS, not the older 3G:
SO that means no baseband downgrade.
Besides, that downgrade solution only worked for a very small percentage of 3G phones (within the first month of production). I have one of those phones (7/11/08 purchase date).Member of the hackint0sh forums.

I unlock and manage several iPhones and can say in my experience that ultrasn0w works more smoothly and consistently than blacksn0w. Basically...keep 4.26. There's no advantage in the newer one. Just headaches.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I had missed the "3GS" in his post.
