I have a iphone 2g unlocked/jailbreak and tmobile cell how do i make it work?

Hey guys i need a little help here, i am buying a iphone 2g from a friend and its already unlocked and jailbroken. I have a tmobile cell with no internet plan and i am confuse on how to get it to work. He said he has the edge plan with it and thats how he gets it to work but i was told that i need to block my current tmobile's internet then just swap my sim into his iphone and everything works. So can someone with experience with this tell me what i need to do next, don't want to add data plans, i just want to know the fastest and simplest way to get it to work with my tmobile sim.

You have to have a data plan to get data. There is no magic way to get it for free.
