T-mobile Total Internet mistake.....
Hey guys....
Just got a great deal on a lightly used 16gb iphone 2g.
So I did some research and signed up for the T-mobile total internet plan. It is 39.99 a month (data only) and requires a 2 year contract agreement. I really was reluctant, but at the time it seemed to be my best option. I have a cheapo phone through Verizon that I use for messaging so I was looking for data only.
However, after seeing the Even More Plus option that is 39.99 for 500 minutes, unlimited texting, and $10 extra for unlimited internet, this seems like a much better option.
I would be paying 49.99 a month for unlimited data and texting plus no contract in comparison to $ 40 a month for data only and a 2 year contract.
My questions are:
What are the differences between the 39.99 Even more plus plan with the $10 data added and the 59.99 Even more plus plan(500 mins, unlimited text) that has data included? Would the 59.99 plan be more "legit" or actually supported for the iphone? If I can just walk into a store and sign up for this with my iphone instead of having to jump through a few hoops I would rather just pay 60 a month.
Does this realiably work? or should I just stay with the 39.99 total internet plan?
I will cancel the total internet plan during the 20 day buyers remorse period. (the sim card and iphone have not yet arrived) However, they already have the account flagged as having the iphone. The rep said the iphone was ok for this plan.
How do I set up this new plan without a gsm capable phone ? (assuming the plan is not able to be mentioned with an iphone)
Could I not just buy a cheap prepaid T-mobile phone from Walmart or some retailer like that? (do they exist?)
What are your opinions. Should I go for the Even More Plus or stay with the Total Internet?

There's really no difference. You're just paying $10 more. If you want text and data + voice, get the $39.99 plan, choose a SIM card as your phone (filter by low-> high), and add the $10 data plan for other phones. You can do all this online, so no need to worry about calling from a gsm phone. With this, your monthly bill would be $49.99 for unlimited everything.
They're both just as reliable. Except you're getting 500minutes and unlimited text for $10 more.Does this realiably work? or should I just stay with the 39.99 total internet plan?
Like I said, just buy a SIM card - no need for a new phone.Could I not just buy a cheap prepaid T-mobile phone from Walmart or some retailer like that? (do they exist?)
I'd say you're getting a great deal for $10 more. Go with the even more. I've had the $10 unlimited internet service and have had a day of outage in the past year. So yes - it is reliable, don't believe other people who tell you otherwise and try to trick you into getting the $34.99 data plan for smartphones. There's no reason to over-pay.What are your opinions. Should I go for the Even More Plus or stay with the Total Internet?
Good luck.If I helped you out, please use the Thanks button ------------------------->

Thanks!
I suppose I will just cancel the internet plan once the sim car gets here and do it all online. Thanks so much. Hadn't planned on using it for anything more than data but for 10 bucks more a month why the heck not!
Since there is no contract do you just prepay, or how does that work?Last edited by Dragomer; 11-24-2009 at 05:15 AM. Reason: typos

With Even More Plus you would pay the bill at the end of every cycle, like you would for any contracted line. But you won't get subsidized phone upgrades. I've also heard you need to have good payment on the account, meaning that if you have a balance after the due date they can cut off your line (since there's no contract).

Even more plus depends on how you want it to operate. Flexpay is prepaid and postpaid is the EM+ plan advertised on the website. You can have it either way. I like Flexpay because if you decide you don't want it anymore you can just not pay the bill, as you're not billed for the month prior like postpaid.
