Data Plan Question

Hey im new to all of this stuff..

Can I just buy a tmobile SIM card with the $39.99 500 mins/text plan and use it with an unlocked iphone (with no data plan)? And if i can't get an iphone would it work on a t mobile phone like the g1...Or would t mobile see I dont have a data plan and just add it on my bill

I have no use for a data plan, im a student and have wifi most places I go..I just want a new phone and carrier

Yes you can use an iPhone with no data plan. You won't get charged if you attempt to access the web. You can also use any other phone.

Sweet, and the $10.00 internet plan will work if i decide to get it, right? Ill just get a crappy phone and call and add it then switch back to my iphone..But this wont work for any t mobile smartphones, will it?

It will work with the iPhone. I think the T-mobile smartphones (G1, myTouch) will block the $10 plan and will force you to get the $35 (or whatever it is) smartphone data plan. I'm on the $10 plan and it works flawlessly with the iPhone.

Yea...I mean there's been many times that the data has helped a lot. Especially when you're on the road and you're looking for a place to go, or a price on an item, many things. There was a day that T-mobile's data didn't work for me and it sucked. And $10 for unlimited data (for a smartphone) is unheard of in other carriers. So you're getting a good deal there.

Yeah, I think $34.99 is a rip off just for a data plan but $10 is a really good deal. On the t mobile forums, they make it sound like you cant get the $10 plan anymore and that you need the smartphone data. But there probably calling off the iphone to get it

O btw, should I just order a SIM card with the $10 plan already on it...Or should i get the talk/text and call off an old phone and add the plan?

You can get the 500 minute plan, choose a free SIM and add the $10 data service. If you want text as well (which you probably do) choose the plan for $10more which includes text. Yea the $35 is a rip off, specially since you can't get 3G on the iPhone.

so it will total 49.99 plus tax...not bad for an iphone

Yes, I'm on 3.1.2 right now and it works fine. Internet2.voicestream.com

Yes, I can tether with this plan. Can't tell you it's fast, but it does work.
