Default Voicemail Permanent Red Dot - Is there a fix?

I have an iPhone 3GS w/ Firmware 3.1.2. It's jailbroken and unlocked with blacksn0w. I can't figure out how to make the red voicemail dot disappear. I have the new 64k sim card. Every time I turn my phone on it tells me that I have a new voicemail, but when I call my voicemail it's empty. This is starting to get pretty annoying. Is there any way to fix it? I searched the forums for about 45mins and could only find mentions of it without any real solution.

This happened to me the first time I bought an iphone and unlocked it. That was a couple of years ago but the fix was to get a new sim from tmobile. Once I changed it out the dot went away. I know you said your sim is "new" but it might be worth a shot anyways.

My sim is new. I just bought it less than 2 weeks ago.
