Jailbroken iphone with tmobile data plan questions
Hi, i'm finally ponying up and getting data services on my iphone after only owning it for over a year..yeah took me long enough. I'm on a 2g iphone f/w 3.0 (can't upgrade as my power button doesn't work but I do have ireboot installed) My questions to you are these
1. on the t-mobile website which phone should I select as my phone to avoid having to sign up for smart phone packages for the g1 or blackberry?
2. How much difference is notable while on the road using web2go instead of the $30 package?
3. I see people talking about a $20 data+ unlimited data package, but I don't see it anywhere on the t-mobile site (see question #1 again) how do I find that and are there really any differences between that and the $9.99 package
4. Any other suggestions or ideas you may have are welcome.
Thanks guys, i'm digging the site btw..much better than other forums i've seen.
Update i've gone ahead and selected the razor as my dumb phone via the tmobile website, I already have the $14.99 unlimited text but still can't find the $20 unlimited data and text packageLast edited by iphoneblueprint; 11-06-2009 at 11:23 AM.

1. Select the Samsung Katalyst as your dumb phone. Then you can get the unlimited data plan for $10.
2. It won't be any different from any other data plans as we're not able to use T-mo's 3G network with our iphone, so only Edge network.
3. There should be a package with unlimited data+text.
4. Enjoy!

I followed your instructions and got to the plans, since I already have the 14.99 unlimited text all I see is other text plans and hotspot and the web2go plan for $10 but I don't see the $20 plan anywhere and I don't have a dumb phone to put my sim into to fool tmobile while on the phone with them to hide my imei.

If you need text, just get the talk text web EMP.
It's bundled. Talk + Text is $10 extra over talk only, and smartphone Web is an extra $20.

All I did was call up T-mobile. I asked the rep to upgrade my $9.95 plan (200 txts and 50mb of data) to $19.95 Plan (unlimited txt and data).
Just ask them about the $19.95 web2go plan with unlimited data and txt. I am not sure now because they just got the 'even more' plans. I never mentioned to the rep that I had the iPhone.

Thanks dude, you actually answered the question. I had apprehensions about calling tmobile because of the whole imei detection thing I read in the forum but if you upgraded without hassle via phone without having to identify your phone then that's great news.

APN on MMS should be wap.voicestream.com
If you don't want blurry MMS go to Rock/Cyda and add the source "sinfuliphonerepo.com" and install MMS and tethering. Enter settings and hit reset in cellular network then type in your APN's for data and MMS both. Reboot. Then you're all done.

Why do some people keep insisting on recommending the $20 smartphone plan when we're all clearly still able to get the $10 plan? "Hey this two cars are the same exact model, have the same speed, but I recommend you buy the one's that twice the price. For the hell of it."

Uh because they're talking about the $20 text and data plan which is the same as the $10 data. The $20 is for the bundle nobody is buying the same model car for a higher price here. We are buying a car for the lower price bundled with power windows -.- you don't need to get the bundle if you don't want text so that means it's $10 for data.

uh... WRONG. Read post #4. "smartphone Web is an extra $20." As a matter of fact, its not $20, it's $25 - and it DOES NOT include text. That's an extra $10. Don't believe me? Go to their website. I did and I got your proof. The picture's attached. So how about you do some research before you post. The $20 data+text is for non-smartphones, which is what I have and recommend. I am talking about the QUOTE I posted above which recommends the $20 (which is really $25) SMARTPHONE data plan for the iPhone. Which makes you pay $15 more for the same damn speed, while HTC users get 3G and you get...edge.

The fact that you get EDGE doesn't matter. A majority of T-Mobile 3G devices are outside of the 3G network.
Data is only $25 when added standalone. It's $30 when bundled with Text. Also if we we're all on the Smartphone data we wouldn't have outages and people complaining about data suddenly stopping because T-Monile decides to kick certain people off and then having to go through hoops when calling customer service because you're not on the right data plan.
It's not the same, the names of the plan aren't even the same.

I've had web2go for over a year and have had one problem for one day. I think 24 hours of outage is worth saving the $200 a year, is it not? And if I had an HTC I would be getting 3G, as I live in S.FL - and many metropolitan residents would as well. Of course many wouldn't get it, just like AT&T, that's something we can't control. But AT&T doesn't give you the option to pick a $10 unlimited data plan for an iPhone, do they? By being the same, I meant speed. The speeds are exactly the same.

AT&T doesn't give you the option and they don't have their $20 EDGE iPhone internet plan anymore. They charge a flat rate for everyone and it's $30. I'm glad you've only had one outage but that's not the case for others. If you had an Android or any other T-Mobile device they would kick you off the plan within minutes because it's not for smartphones and T-Mobile branded devices are the only ones they can identify and kick off.
It's not $200 a year either, it's $120 or $180 if you don't need any messages. It's a drop in the bucket

Well how about we slow down when we read the posts. I said AT&T does not give you the option for $10 plan (I don't care what speed it is). And when I was talking about the HTC phones, I was comparing SMARTPHONE plans. If you read my posts above, you'd see I'm talking about how an HTC user in your SMARTPHONE plan gets 3G while you don't. I have never alleged using a non-smartphone plan on an HTC.
Most of the outage cases I've heard of are coming from old T-zones users. Web2go users have outages for a few days (if that) and most of the times it's related to the area itself and not T-mobile kicking them out.If I helped you out, please use the Thanks button ------------------------->

To be totally honest, I barely read your post because I don't really care about what you wrote. You're complicating it. If you want to be cheap and have some problems along the way, go ahead with the cheaper internet plan. If you don't want any problems and have less ping and higher DL speeds go with the Smartphone web.

Who cares. You obviously have issues with being corrected. Take your own advice and read posts slowly before responding. The matter of the fact is, TMobile is cheap great you can get a $10 plan everybody knows that cuz I have that and I'm sure every other tmobile user does too. So clap clap you pointed out the obvious. GIRLLLLLLL was simply listing other options she knows what's going on. So instead of sitting there arguing with people and pointing out the obvious just relax and move on. You came in here in an argumentative mode already while everyone else had been calm and trying to be informative.

I'm perfectly calm. But if I would have been a noob user and got your advice of getting the $25 plan I'd be pretty pissed off if I found out that there's a $10 plan I can get which gives me the same speed. And of course I'm cheap, that's why I'm on T-mobile! And I have the peace of mind that I'm paying $180 (to be exact now) less every year than you are. Getting no outages in the past 5 months with the same edge (give or take a ping or two/second). I guess if you care about paying $180 for 3 or 4 kbits more go right ahead. You can do whatever you want with your plan, but when you're trying to mislead new buyers that the $10 plan is going to give them all these outrageous problems, you know it's not true. They're not getting t-zones.
It's not just in this post - it's constant. Telling people web2go is this service that's going to give you constant trouble. That's misleading, not giving other options. If I helped you out, please use the Thanks button ------------------------->

Who said I was telling them that it was going to give them all of these outrageous problems? I said if you want smooth sailing 100% of the time just don't be cheap and go for the Smartphone web.
