    Default Internet Tethering disappeared

I went to tether my iPhone to my laptop last night and saw the Internet Tethering button disappear right in front of me! It was there, like always, but by the time I went to go tap it, it disappeared.

I've tried ... rebooting, uninstalling and reinstalling Spooky's T-Mobile carrier support and resetting network settings in between and afterwards, and nothing brings the button back.

Last time I used internet tethering was about a month ago and everything was fine.

    any ideas?

Go to help.benm.at from your phone and scroll down to mobileconfigs -> CREATE (under download). Type in your APN (ie. internet2.voicestream.com), select "enable tethering" and generate - it should work again. However,if you change your APN it will stop tethering.

    unfortunately that didn't work

i used internet2.voicestream.com as the APN (which is what it's set to under Cellular Data Network), enabled tethering, generated, installed the profile, rebooted, went back to Network and the Internet Tethering button still isn't there.

    arg this is so weird!

Did you remove all the previous patches, SpookyET's, etc? What phone are you using/firmware?

put in the repo SiNfuL iPhone Repo

There is a package there that will enable tethering.

Are you sure 3.1.2 allows Tethering on US carriers? I remember reading somewhere that 3.1.x had disabled it, but this may be for AT&T only. I would downgrade to 3.0, as I know it works in there for sure. You may also want to research around and see if someone on 3.1.2 on T-mobile has tethering.

EDIT: They already hacked it Here you go. Hopefully this tutorial does it for 3.1.2

I didn't need to go and get a new mobileconfig... once I installed the 3.1.2 fix for tethering, SpookyET's t-mobile config went back to working like it did under 3.0

That site doesn't have T-mobile. Go to help.benm.at from your iPhone and scroll down to mobileconfigs (CREATE) and type in your APN (internet2.voicestream.com for example) and click on enable tethering. That's it.

the "3.1.2 Tethering Tutorial" looks different from when I used it to fix my tethering issue. Looks like it's been completely rewritten to use blackra1n instead of pwnagetool

Yeah, I think blackra1n enables tethering with the correct mobileconfig. I was surprised how easily it worked. I guess it's another advantage over using pwn method

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but I have a question about tethering using this process. When I use USB to tether to a PC everything seems to work perfectly. The iPhone displays "Internet Tethering", but when I try to tether my macbook running OS X I get nothing (well, except it tries to sync with iTunes, but that's it). Any advice or anyone know what might be the issue here?

Edit: Disregard. I rebooted my macbook and let the iphone sync with iTunes and out of the blue it started tethering. Fricken sweet!
