The imei is typically on the phone box. No need to buy and return. Ask to see the box to check for specific specs and take a photo of the bar code with your handy iphone. The folks at the store have no clue what you are doing and usually don't care. That's what I would do. Anyhue I am still on Pay as you go plan.

i actually went to the tmobile store and told them to add the web2go and the lady there asked me what phone i was using, i said iphone, she said it wouldnt work for iphone, then i said what if i said i had a razr, she said okay and then added it for me. lol they never asked me for an imei even though i had some available at the time..lol

I have a friend that works for t-mobile.. I changed from the G1 data plan to the web2go no problem. (iphone 3g)

So it does work (and well btw), you just have to hit up the right sales person
