Interesting: at [ame="http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=12957845#post12957845"]this forum[/ame], a couple of people are claiming they were able to downgrade to $5.99 T-Zones today through online chat, and then access the internet with wap.voicestream.com. Might be worth a try.

i got off the phone with tech support on 3 separate occasions today
all stating that the tmobile towers were upgraded so that all smartphones including the iphone will now REQUIRE the webconnect plan and that the web2go will no longer work
i am giving it a few days i have already canceled the 9.99 plan, but if that's the case i am switching to ATT anyways id rather pay 25 bucks for 3g service (discount from school) than 25 bucks for edge
and i get a new phone out of it

Thank you
I just registered here to say Thank You!!
You just saved me 252.00 over the course of a contract (possibly even more after tax difference sans discount, correct?)
I had no idea AT&T had a discount system that you could check if your organization or school has a deal with them. After reading your post I tried my college e-mail and I found out I get ten bucks and fifty cents off each month. Which ended up really solidifying my decision to leave T-mobile. Instead of being 80.00+ with the lowest plan its now closer to 65.00-70.00 a month after taxes.
That's just a no-brainer now. T-mobile wants even more money for crappy EDGE. I'm getting this together tomorrow and doing it. This is a real light at the end of the tunnel with what T-mobile is doing here.
Thank you so so much! (I'm now a part of this community too, of course)Last edited by loopsider; 08-26-2009 at 12:33 AM.

So i was using the iphone under the web2go data plan for 34.99 and it stopped working. What do I have to do to get it working again? I tried changing the APN a few times to no avail. Thanks

Ehh..
Ok, I'm pretty sure all the smartphones that have been metioned have been blacklisted from the 9.99 plan..
I have two iPhones on my account....both were using said 9.99 plan and showing the "Webconnect" issue since early yesterday.
I called Cust care..to switch one of them iPhones to the 24.99 plan
5 minutes later my internet was up and running on that iPhone
but the second one with the 9.99 plan was no go...
Switched the second one to the 24.99 plan..
again 5 minutes later phone internet was up and running ;/
T-Mobile has just screwed me over..but there's no way I can afford to go to AT&T..I'm still under contract =/
EDIT:Just for location purposed I'm located in Orlando, FLLast edited by doeboynmek; 08-26-2009 at 06:32 AM. Reason: Added information

Just had this online conversation with customer service.
Summary: If you did not purchase a phone that REQUIRED a data plan, then it is not a change in the terms of service.
This is only part of my conversation. I started by asking when my contract ends, which led into a discussion over why I'm thinking of cancelling.
TinLemon: do you know any information about whether the change in data plan constitutes a change in the TOS?
TinLemon: the plan I signed up for didn't required a specific type of phone, it simply said "unlimited data for phones"
~Todd G: When did you get your current handset?
TinLemon: geez.. I guess 7/22/08
TinLemon: that's only reason I'd renew my contract... to get a new phone
~Todd G: July 22 2008, if so your handset does not require the data feature.
~Todd G: Only handsets activated or upgraded on or after June 3rd, 2009 require the data feature to be on the account.
TinLemon: interesting. though it still doesn't make sense because I signed up for a service that was changed on me. So irregardless of what is "required" for my phone, the services I am paying for are not being delivered as promised when I signed up
TinLemon: for example, if I contract with you to paint my house for $100, you can't paint my house and then send me a bill for $200 when you feel like it
~Todd G: The terms and conditions are subject to change, and when there are huge changes they are mailed out
TinLemon: I did not receive this by mail
~Todd G: And depending on the changes, you may be able to cancel your contract at that time.
~Todd G: I am not sure if that was a mail out, one moment I will check.
TinLemon: thank you
~Todd G: Just be another moment please.
TinLemon: sure thing
~Todd G: There was no mail out for this, as it only affected new customers or customers upgrading their handsets.
~Todd G: And before you select a new handset, you are advised which require the data feature.
TinLemon: I upgraded outside of the t-mobile system
TinLemon: purchased a used phone from a friend
~Todd G: And unless you upgraded the handset through us, and agreed to a new contract after 06/03/09, you do not require the data feature.
TinLemon: ok, so what are my options at this point for getting a data plan for my phone?
TinLemon: I don't see anything on my account online
TinLemon: besides the $9.99 data plan I currently have.. no other options to upgrade to
~Todd G: What handset are you currently using?
TinLemon: iphone
~Todd G: iPhone would need to use the Smartphone Unlimited Web for $24.99 for the data to work on the handset.
TinLemon: Ok, I'll have to think about it.

Called again, and now I got the same response as others: please upgrade to $24.99, glitch in system, yahdahyahdah. This is a shame, I'm not gonna pay Tmob $120 instead of AT&T for a package where I'm using 1 MB/month.
