Total Newbie Here
First off, thanks to all of you guys/gals who've been posting all the info in these forums. I just got my first iPhone (using it through T-Mobile) and so far the only way I've gotten anything to work is by browsing the forum here and learning as I go. I'd like to appologize ahead of time for any idiotic questions/comments on my part. I'm really new at this and want to make sure I'm getting/doing things correctly.
My questions, and they're pretty high on the retard-scale, are regarding MMS for the 2G on 3.0 OS and APN settings.
My search here told me to use that MMSActiveate package from Cydia, but every time I try to install it, when it says "Reboot device" Cydia crashes and I'm back to the Springboard. I've tried repeatedly, and the same thing happens every time. I gave up and just got SwirlyMMS, but I'd prefer to just be able to MMS through the regular messaging app.
As far as APN settings go, I've tried installing the APNEditor from Cydia, but it always errors when I try and install it. It doesn't even finish. I've seen a few entries that say to go in and edit lines of code specifically, but honestly, I'm afraid I'll wind up bricking my iPhone.
Is this one of those cases where I should just give up, restore, and then do the unlock/jailbreak all over again?
Thanks.

Cydia has been having a few server problems. Not sure if that's your problem tho. Is Cydia crashing every time you try to D/L something?
How did you J/B? Did you install Icy also? Tell me more.

You might want to try one of the T-Mobile.ipccs floating around. You upgrade your carrier settings via iTunes

Cydia's only been giving me issues with the MMS and APN stuff. Everything else I've downloaded (themes, apps, etc.) have gone through just fine.
I got the phone jailbroken already, that part I didn't have to do. I just did the T-Mobile stuff and tweaks to get it to run mostly the way I wanted.
I don't have Icy installed as far as I know. Like I said, I'm still really new at this. Sorry.

So are you missing Cellular Data Network settings for APN?

Yes. When I follow the directions laid out in a few other threads, I do Settings>General>Network But all I have there is "Data Roaming", VPN and Wi-Fi.
When my Wi-Fi is off, I have an upper-case "E" next to my T-Mobile logo, but someone told me that if I don't have APN settings anywhere, I'm not on EDGE even if the E is there.

^ If you follow the other instructions it will allow your Cellular Data Network Settings to appear. You have to update your ipcc

So here's what is possibly a very stupid question:
In SwirlyMMS, it has an APN setting.
If I set THAT to the T-Mobile (epc.tmobile.com), will that make the whole phone run off that APN setting, or just SwirlyMMS?
I only ask because I'm stuck at work for a few hours yet before I can head home and do the iTunes fix.

Your running 3.0, you don't need SwirlyMMS.

I do until I try the fix StealthBravo directed me to. I have no MMS settings/options. I've tried ActivateMMS but that does nothing on my phone. I even tried getting Icy since you mentioned it earlier and reinstalling ActivateMMS from there to no avail.

So, I did the Carrier Settings thing SB suggested yesterday by downloading it through Cydia. Now I have MMS, but it doesn't send. The send bar gets about 90% through, freezes, then does nothing until I get an error message that says "Message was not sent, tap try again to resend". Regulars SMS goes through fine, but MMS freezes. Additionally, I still have no APN options or Cellular Network Data anywhere.
I was going to follow the video attached to the post SB sent me to, but it's done on a Mac and I don't have an "options" key on my PC. Am I just completely retarded and missing a really easy fix here?
What am I doing wrong?

Try sending a pic to your own phone number. It worked for me.

Same result, gets to about 90-95% and freezes then errors.
Okay, got it fixed. Went on unlockit and used that to change the APN to wap.voicestream.com from epc.tmobile.com and now it works.
Thanks for all of the help!Last edited by JamesRiot; 07-26-2009 at 12:38 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
