T-Mobile USA Carrier Bundles: Bluetooth, Data/Internet, MMS, & Tethering (2G/3G/3GS)

Description

The carrier support bundles that are floating around the net that enable/expose MMS and tethering are broken or incomplete. I have created my own bundles. The IPCC bundles do not require jailbreaking and can be installed via iTunes. Cydia/Icy/Rock packages are also available. You will find bundles for different account types.

When the iPhone roams on an unknown carrier, it will display the name sent by that specific carrier; which is usually long and unable to fit in the allotted space ("T - Mobile"). If you have had a scrolling logo or "T - ...", that is the reason. This is due to T-Mobile USA not being an official carrier. These bundles will fix the issue and display "T-Mobile". T-Mobile is now known.

The bundles were made for firmware 3.x.x and will work with any iPhone running iPhone OS 3.x.x. On 3.0, they enable/expose MMS and tethering on an iPhone 3G/3GS. On 3.1.x, they only enable/expose MMS on an iPhone 3G/3GS. On all firmwares (3.x.x) and all iPhones (2G/3G/3GS), the bundles provide OEM features such as T-Mobile services and the correct carrier settings pre-installed. See below for specific model patches.

If you choose to share the bundles on other sites, please link back to this thread (short URL: tr.im/qu4F) so people can receive updates (instead of hard linking).

Patches:

To get started, add the following repos to Cydia/Icy/Rock:

cydia.iphonemod.com.br

cydia.pushfix.info
  • iPhone 2G users: To enable tethering, MMS, and all of the iPhone 3G's Bluetooth profiles (A2DP, AVRCP, HFP, PAN, and PBAP, as well as Gaming and WiAP), you must install iPhone 2G: tethering, MMS and full Bluetooth [FW 3.1.2] from Cydia/Icy/Rock.

Another benefit is improved battery life versus ActivateMMS2G.

WARNING: A virgin iPhone 2G running 3.1.2 that is jailbroken is required. You also have to have a clean CommCenter (i.e. if you already have an MMS patch installed, get rid of it) and a clean BTServer (i.e. if you already have A2DP Enabler, get rid of it).

A clean CommCenter has an MD5 of 1db09f87f239049d155ac07c964a4e0a. You can check by typing (copy/paste) this command in terminal:

    • md5sum /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/CoreTelephony.framework/Support/CommCenter

Credits go to Daniel Borca: Hackint0sh

    Also from Daniel:
    Quote:
And a small caveat: if you have other tweaks in M68AP.plist (like gas-gauge-battery), they'll be lost.
  • iPhone 3G users: To enable tethering, you must install Enable tethering on 3G iPhones [FW 3.1.2] (also found in the iphonemod.br repo posted above).
  • iPhone 3GS users: To enable tethering, you must install Enable tethering on 3GS iPhones [FW 3.1.2] (again, found in the iphonemod.br repo posted above).
  • Push Notifications & YouTube: If the latest version of blackra1n did not fix YouTube, install YouTube Fix #1/2/3 (it does not matter which one you install).

OPTIONAL: If you would like to receive push notifications, install Pushfix 2.0. The $5.99 cost provides you with your own, unique, push certificates and technical support. Again, this is OPTIONAL.

    More info: Pushfix.info

Asking for Help Format:

iPhone: 3GS
Bundle Used: T-Mobile US - Prepaid/Postpaid
Voice Plan: Individual 600
Data Plan: T-Mobile G1 Unlimited Web
SMS: T-Mobile G1 Unlimited Messages
Time with T-Mobile: 36 months
Last Plan Change: 6 months ago
Problem: I cannot send MMS. However, I can receive MMS. Tethering and Internet do work.

Bundle Settings (for reference):

T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid
T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid BlackBerry
T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid Legacy
T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid Sidekick
T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid TZones
T-Mobile US - Postpaid/Flexpaid VPN Legacy
T-Mobile US - Prepaid
T-Mobile US - Prepaid Sidekick
Methods of Installation:

Whichever method you choose, always Reset Network Settings after installation:
  • Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings -> Reset Network Settings
After your phone automatically reboots, reset your network-related settings found in the Cellular Data window:
  • Settings -> General -> Network -> Cellular Data Network -> Reset Settings -> Reset
There is NO NEED TO EDIT any of the input fields as the information is instantly populated by performing the above action (Reset Settings -> Reset).

Cydia/Icy/Rock
Cydia/Icy/Rock packages can be found in the ModMyI repository within the Tweaks category. These packages properly install the carrier bundle and do not use carrier testing mode. They should be used by anyone with a jailbroken phone.

iTunes iPhone Carrier Support (IPCC)
These IPCC files are recommended for users with officially unlocked phones who do not wish to jailbreak. They can, however, be installed on jailbroken phones. Read the README.txt in the "doc" folder and watch the screencast bellow.

WARNING
: If the current version you have installed fully works, SAVE IT. DO NOT upgrade as you are unlikely to gain new features. You may instead lose some if the updated bundle is broken.

DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.0.11 IPCC (Fixed an iPhone 2G MMS bug)
DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.0.10 IPCC (iPhone OS 3.0-3.1.2 with ultrasn0w 0.92+)
DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.0.9 IPCC (iPhone OS 3.1.2 with ultrasn0w 0.91 ONLY)
DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.0.8 IPCC
DOWNLOAD VERSION 1.0.7 IPCC

Carrier Bundle Installation Screencast

Known Issues:
  1. MMS does not work on T-Mobile US - Sidekick Prepaid. Multiple settings have been tried and confirmed with T-Mobile. None have worked.
  2. There is no known easy way to uninstall an IPCC installed via carrier testing mode. Delete the following symbolic links via SSH and reboot your phone:

    • /private/var/mobile/Library/Carrier Bundle.bundle

    • /private/var/mobile/Library/Operator Bundle.bundle

Thread Rules:
  1. Read, read, and reread again.
  2. Use the forum's search function.
  3. Do not be an idiot. Show some level of intelligence.
  4. If you create your own IPCC bundles, do not attach them to a post. Advertise what you have and share via private message. It becomes too confusing to have bundles littering the thread everywhere.

If you choose to share the bundle on other sites, please link bank to this thread or to my Twitter account. So, people can receive updates. There are rumours that T-Mobile are training their employees for the Visual Voicemail launch at the end of July. These bundles will have to be updated with the Visual Voicemail settings if their implementation is compatible with the iPhone. The bundles were made for the 3.0 Firmware. They will work with any iPhone running iPhone OS 3.0.

Sidekick plan bundle to come. If anyone can suggest VPN settings, please do. I don't know how to configure VPN.

Besides, MMS and tethering, these bundles also have the proper T-Mobile logo. No more scrolling logo or "T - ...". It shows "T-Mobile".

I have only used a carrier bundle once last week when trying to get MMS working on my 2G. Updating with this bundle won't undo any settings that I have now right? I'm worried about loosing the ability to MMS and such. Also, will this bundle enable tethering for T-Mo on the 2G?

It will overwrite your settings. I am not familiar with the 2G. All I can guarantee is that it works on the iPhone OS 3.0 for iPhone 3G and 3GS.

I just tested it with custom logos. I am against them. It looks like crap when it's on black. Plus, I would like the iPhone to look as official as possible.

If you're talking about enabling the ipcc updates in iTunes:

Start Terminal (Applications > Utilities) and type
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Credits to others as I'm a PC.

I'm pretty sure you can remove the bundle by going to Settings - General - Profile

Not sure though where you will leave you though. I would think that with no profile present, an "unknow" profile would be used as default.

I was afraid of the same thing happening and didn't risk using this file.....

Well I forgot to reboot, I swear I have noob brain today, the MMS's seem to have sent out but my wife has not recived it yet, I just recived one from her. Still very low quality image but it came through.

....Ok sent another one to my wife and she got it pretty quick. So all seems to work fine. Just had to reboot after the update. Thanks!!!

Ditto for me when sending to my wife's phone. It takes longer for some reason for mine to send than hers. Sitting in the same room last night, I sent one and it took about 15 minutes for her to recieve. She sent one to me and it was there in under 2 minutes....... hokey a bit perhaps and the quality is difinately lacking but its incredible progress.

So did this bundle also enable tethering for you as well?

I can't help but smile when I think about everyone getting MMS working on their 2G's after Apple's official announcement that its hardware wouldn't support it. PFT!

Glad to hear that it was an easy reboot that got you up and running.
