I unlocked my 3.0 3G so I could sell it to my friend on T-Mobile. It made calls no problem but it could not send/receive text messages. Any suggestions?

try restarting the phone or restoring the phone again and use redsn0w to jailbreak and Ultrasn0w to unlock...I believe some of the custom jailbroken firmwares floating around are problematic...

Tried restarting it. I used redsn0w and ultrasn0w also.

Did you make sure your sms settings are correct in Settings > General > Network?
