What settings I'm using that have everything working;
(Pics received are still blurry, but not near as bad as they were, and it doesn't take 2hrs to send/receive!)
NOTE!: Do not use "internet2.voicestream.com" as your cellular data APN, it blocks email and internet since it isn't a recognized cellular data network setting. It took me 6 hours to figure that out!

Where did you get the idea that internet2. blocks internet and email?! Ive been using that apn for years and it works great for everything. Its even the one that TMO told me to use.

I have the G1 plan through Tmo, don't know if that makes a difference, but when I tried to use that it couldn't connect. I could text and call just fine, but no youtube, email, internet, etc...

MMS does not require a data plan but does require a messaging plan (someone correct me if thats incorrect as I have both an unlimited data and messaging plan.)
But I thought that the MMS messages were sent through the sms servers, not the data...... hmmm now I'm curious to know for sure. Hopefully though I'm not misleading you in my first statement.

For some reason clicking on "quote" didn't quote the above message, so I just cut and pasted it...
Anyway, I've also been using internet2.voicestream.com for years and it's always worked.
Moving on - I opened the above link "http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf" and noticed towards the bottom,
"<prf:MmsMaxMessageSize>1048576</prf:MmsMaxMessageSize>".....
I wonder if I stop using SwirlyMMS2 and use the built-in MMS and
put "1048576" into the "MMS Max Message Size" field, if it'll
work and not give me blurry pixle-ated messages....?
I will try and post my results.
EDIT: Ok, it didn't work - picture still came in all crappy and blurry - oh well - I paid $12 for SwirlyMMS2 and I love it, so I'll keep on using it.Last edited by dooey5; 06-29-2009 at 06:39 PM. Reason: Tried new settings.

this might be a dumb question but,....is it safe to say one would need to enable edge using sbsettings in order to send/receive MMS? wouldn't the phone need to constantly check for the incoming MMSs and thus decrease its battery life?

Seriously, just call tmobile, they FULLY support your use of iPhone on their network. They will walk you through every step. I did a clients phone for tmobile and had lost my list of settings I called them and they quickly and efficiently helped me set up APN AND MMMS! They were very helpful and nice and the tech support guy I spoke with had an unlocked Iphone on tmobile. Heres the number 877-537-7389. Who loves ya?

To set up your i phone 3GS on T-Mobile network to receive and send MMS messages, obviously you must have a internet plan and follow these instructions:
1- settings>General>Network
a- Disable the 3G
b- Cellular data network:
APN> type : wap.voicestream.com, username and password blank.
MMS> type : wap.voicestream.com, username and password blank.
MMSC> type: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
MMS> Proxy: 216.155.165.50:8080
MMS maximum message size: 307200
it shouldwork fine but again you must have a data plan with T-mobile
