Recently I went on an 8-hr road trip with a few friends. I used my iPhone constantly. Having t-zones, I always connect to safari and "Tmobile E" is displayed on my iPhone.
However, in certain areas, the "E" switched to a small "o"...and safari was still working...it was still on T-mobile network however....
In another instances, it switched to ATT "E"...and iphone web was still working....
Can anyone tell me if I will be charged for using data off network? what does the "o" mean? I have the $5.99 unlimited t-zones plan on tmobile.
The o icon tells you that you're using GPRS (general packet radio service) which is the old-school way of sending data. In meropolitan ares, it's commmon to see the E, for Edge or "enhanced data rates for GSM evolution."
ATT and T-Mobile both are GSM based which makes it "easier" to use your phone with different carriers all over the world.
