    Default RE: Sidekick Unlimited Data Plan VS. T-Zones

    I just spent the last 5 hours reading everything and anything about T-Mobile data plans.

    Right now I have a Sidekick LX with a 19.99 Sidekick Unlimited data plan. I have read in fact that some people have had success with the sidekick plan on the iPhone 2g. With
    APN: hiptop.t-mobile.com
    user: guest
    password: guest

    I'm not sure what I should do. I have also read that the sidekick plan's edge runs alot faster then the T-Zones. I don't have T-zone but I'm pretty sure I can bug a rep to give it to me. I'm very capable, trust me .

    I'm not sure about whether I should stick with the sidekick plan because maybe later, the sidekick plan will not work anymore and the T-Zone plan will become impossible to get. Or should I just try to hassle for the T-zone plan because it's more reliable?
    Those are my options. What should I do?

    If you text a lot stay with sidekick plan .If you break sidekick plan $15 for unlimited msgs and $5 for data.

    tzones $5.99 for data (if you can get it)

    I dont text AT ALL so im fine with tzones

    so after you type in the APN : hiptop.t-mobile.com / guest and guest what do i do now? i have the sidekick plan and just recently got the 2G but i've been only seeing people who were unable to connect using the sidekick plan due to them being specifically made for sidekicks only. so if your method really works i'm going to do it right now. i just typed in the APN, user, and password. what do i do next? do i have to mess with any more settings i.e. activate stuff?

    I'm also interested in your claim about sidekick data working with 2g iphone. I'll believe that it doesn't, before I believe that it does. But if you could get some hard proof, you'd be awesome. And to the post above me, that's all you have to do, try the internet, if it doesn't work, try restarting the iphone.

    Well, I tried it today with my friend's iPhone 3g 2.2, He also is switching from sidekick to iPhone. It worked just fine. Try turning roaming on, that might do it.

    Put in sim, enter APN/USER/PASSWORD, turned on roaming, turned off 3g, and it worked like a charm

    I don't think it being 3g affected whether the plan worked or not, because we switched off 3g anyway.

    it works and i'm still giddy LOL. i have a sidekick lx and just recently got the iphone 2G and was disappointed in all the threads saying the sidekick plan didn't work, so i was even going to do the whole t-zones bit, but it just sounded like a pain in the *** to do, so i waited it out to see if anyone could figure this little issue out. good thing i waited cause this is completely ligitimate.

    just plug in the above information and restart your phone. i did it and opened my e-mail app to make sure and my inbox began to update. everything works, and it's amazing. sidekick plan : 20 dollars a month for unlimited web browsing and texting, what a deal. and thank keviNNz everyone for this major hookup.

    i can confirm the sidekick data does work,i was going crazy and did not want to go to that lame 20 dollar 100 mb plan,some one by the name of oliver posted the apn

    i added it to my apn and right away it worked,so now i can keep my grand fathered 19.99 plan,it works faster than tzones ever did when i did have tzones.

    everything works for me,web,maps,youtube and so fourth =)

    never tried it on the 2g so eh

    I've been using the Sidekick prepaid plan on a 2G, using the hiptop APN but no proxy or t-zones hacks in place.
    I've been getting DSLReports results from 120Kbps to 180Kbps downlink. That's about the same as what I've seen with AT&T's EDGE network on postpaid.

    @KeviNNZ,

    Good lookin out! I REALLY really appreciate the info. Everything works perfect.. maps, youtube, etc and surprisingly faster than it ever did on my SK3.

    I didn't need to restart my phone or anything. I tried this APN previously but didn't turn roaming on and left user and password blank and it didn't work.

    SO MANY sites claim that the Sidekick plan uses Danger servers and theres no way it will work on the iPhone. Happy I kept hope alive and kept my 19.99 plan and didn't give up.

    Thanx again.

    @rud3bwoy,

    Works on my 2g, I have 2.2 Firmware maybe your friend hasn't upgraded their fireware? Not sure. Every now and then I notice the message pops up saying something bout internet is not included in my cellular data plan but a second later it disappears and I'm back on and checking email, etc..

    I HATE seeing it cause I haven't even had it a day yet so I'm worried its just going to just stop working on me

    I read in another thread someone who had it after 2 days (48hrs) it just stopped all together..BUT they had prepaid or flex so I'm hoping thats why..I have a regular plan with TMobile so again I'm just keeping my fingers crossed.

    After lookin thru all the posts I noticed that u posted the same info awhile back so THANx for posting it even tho I didn't see it til now

    so far i had no issues at all with the sidekick data,but i get the same issue as you where it says no network at times and 2 seconds later it works

    but i assume that only happens when your phone is idle cause thats the time it happens to me,and once the phone is booted back into normal state for a few seconds after i slide the lock screen all is good
