Getting very slow EDGE speed (15 - 33kbps)
I currently use one of these APN config:
(internet2.voicestream.com / wap.voicestream.com)
But they both give me very slow EDGE speeds.
Internet is very slow, and when I test I usually get 15 - 33kbps no matter where I am (the max once was 54kbps on the road)
I read that the average speed is about 100kbps, how come I am only getting a third of that?
Please give me some input to help me improve my EDGE speed!

EDGE speed is at MAX 58kb a sec with an average of 22kb
now 3G on the other hand supports UP TO 3.8MB but can be as low as 100kb
Hope that helps =]Last edited by seann33uk; 01-05-2009 at 11:45 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost
Being an i can be a lot of pressure. you have to live right up to the small point.

Why do I see then in other threads people getting 100 - 200 kbps? (Using EDGE)

Kilobits or Kilobytes?
I've also read that other users are getting ~100kbps. but i'm not sure if they mean Kilobits or Kilobytes.
Also, the speed could depend on where you are (relative to the nearest cell tower), problems with your iPhone software or hardware, or problems on tMobile's end.

kbps = kilobits per second
kb/s = kilobytes per second
In my case 33 - 55 kilobits..
Which translates into an AMAZING download speed of +- 3-5 kb/s
I used to get this speed 10 years ago on my 33,600 modem
Please help.

I tried epc.tmobile.com / l: guest / p: guest
This APN config does not work in my phone, I get a message that I am not subscribed to the service.

Again, yesterday I did another speed test and I was getting speeds from 15 - 45 kbps. Surfing the web with EDGE is almost impossible for me.

Could the problem be T-Zones vs. T-Mobile Total Access?
Do they offer different connection speeds under Edge?
Which one are you using?
FYI - my current Edge performance using Total Access:
Download Kbits/s > 117 max, 101 average
Upload Kbits/s > 22 max, 20 averageLast edited by artfuly_dodged; 01-15-2009 at 03:17 PM. Reason: syntax

mine would work for a while and then stop working. then i would switch the APN and it would start working again. kind of funky but whatever.

The plan I have actually is the 50MB / 200 SMS @ $9.99
The most I got was 54kbps on EDGE.
Either everyone saying that they are getting 100kbps - 250kbps on EDGE is bs'in, or there is an issue with my phone / plan.
Please help, I need to know what is causing my phone to have amazingly low edge speeds.
