First of all you have to pay for the internet package. Once you have an internet packaged you go to :
settings/general/network/cellular data network
under APN you type in your internet settings....ie internet2.voicestream.com or epc.tmobile.com, etc
hope that's what your looking for

if i try to add a vpn account it asks for
L2TP PPTP IPSEC
Description
Server:
Account
RSA SECURE ID: YES/NO
Password
Secret
Send all traffic:Yes/no
and i dunno what to put it for most of them.

you need to enter APN settings NOT VPN

Ok, so where in the hell do you add in the APN on the 3G? I dont see a spot for it.. just VPN, When I go to network settings I have Enable 3G, data roam, VPn, Wi-Fi
USA, Tmobile, yep...we have nothing, tried installing boss prefs tmo pack, but I got an error! Anyone know a workaround>?

you completely restored and still wasn't there? WOW, if you've got a warranty I'd take that to apple and make em give you a new one!

If you do not see the APN screen try this on your iPhone:
APN Changer
It will let you change your APN from there.

Ya, I saw that last night, however, not sure as to where to implement those files via SSH...I didnt see any directions or anything.. It doesnt matter right now anyways I suppose since I restarted my phone and lost my unlock, so I am stuck with some old school samsung until I get off work and get to re-unlock it "hopefully"

only way to make internet work on iphone 3g is you need to have 5.99 tzones plan and then download 5.99 t zones hack from cydia and restart. It will work. and make sure apn address is wap.voicestream.com...

Thats the problem, most of us dont have the APN setting available due to whatever firmware we used. Does anyone have a link to the firmware files with this on it? For some reason it seems a good majority dont have these options, therfor making the hack damn near impossible. Or if like stated before if we could go in via SSH, find the file that way and edit it to the correct apn and be set.

What if we ripped someones backup that had it, and restored it to a non APN setting iphone? Could it be that easy?
