3g unlocking problem with T-Mobile...
I have a iPhone 3g with firmware 2.2 and baseband 2.28.00 (big mistake, i now know). My carrier is T-Mobile. I have tried 2 sim unlock cards and they both worked for just a few minutes, then said "no service". a few minutes later it changed to "no sim". no matter what settings I change I cant get the phone to recognize the sim. The unlock cards are said to be compatible with both my firmware and baseband versions.
Any ideas?

What SIM cards do you have? Have you tried to put them in a tmobile phone for about 5 mins THEN back into the iPhone?

Put the phone into airplane mode and completely reboot the phone. Wait 30 seconds after it has rebooted and then take off airplane mode. It wont say no service or no sim anymore.

I have a turbor card and an i-smartphone card. And yes, I have tried switching it over to a t-mobile phone for several minutes and back to the iphone. One other note, I find it wierd how each unlock card worked only the first time I tried it but never afterwards. Is there maybe a way to reset the unlock card? It is almost like it stores information that the phone keeps rejecting.
@seh6183
I tried your method and it still says "no sim".
anybody else have any ideas??? please, any help would be appreciated.Last edited by jonogone; 12-30-2008 at 06:25 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

I had the same problem. My turbo SIM Card only worked for one day and then it said "no service" I rebooted the phone and jailbroke again without the sim card installed. Once it restarted I installed the SIM card, it searched for about 30 secs. and now it works. I can't seem to get my internet to work though. Anyone have any solutions for this?

After the yellowsn0w is applied, and you reboot and try all this stuff this is what I get:
I ran QuickPwn with 2.2 firmware running the baseband up to 2.28.00
Went smooth... had to run QuickPwn from the zip file and not extract. Extracting made it hang. Don't know why and don't care. If you're stuck waiting for recovery mode to kick in, don't extract the contents of the Zip file. Just run it by doubleclicking. Then point to your firmware wherever. That fixed that.
Then finding yellowsn0w. You have to add the yellowsn0w address to your sources in Cydia after QuickPwn alters the firmware package. Once you add it, it'll show up in Sources and you can INSTALL! So then you install it, you shut off the phone and slap in your sim card. Boot it up with the new sim card.
This is where I see problems.
So ok, it comes up and actually tells me I have a voicemail (which I don't). I get 1/2 a bar but no significant carrier at the top left. When I view carrier in general settings it still says AT&T 2.9.
Double-U, Tee, EFF!?
Alright, second issue that may or may not be anyone else's problem. iTunes. It said the sim card was not supported. I right clicked on the phone and clicked sync... it SANK and then the message about the sim went away. Voila! Worked great.
Still, nothing anyone has mentioned with removing and waiting and waiting and waiting and switching and etc etc etc has ever given me signal.
I get no connection to T-Mobile.
I get 1/2 a bar on the top left but I can't make calls!
I guess the good news is it doesn't say 'No Sim'. But it does say 'No Service'. I have an unlocked 2G sitting right next to it working so it's not a spooky ~Dead Zone~.
Airplane mode swap and boot? No go. Switching Sims? No go. Rebooting endlessly? No go. Waiting? Come on! No go.
Anyone have ideas on what's next? No method so far has worked but I'd like to be able to help those having some trouble like myself.
Thanks dudes!!

Hi, I have unlock my sis in law's 3g by using yellowsn0w 0.9.4 (upgraded to 0.9.5 today) last night and it works great. if everything u guys have tried didnt work try my way. remember to turn off the 3G if u r using Tmobile it doesnt matter to us cos we have no 3G anyway.
go download the MobileTerminal open it and type (ID:su) enter and it will shows up password (type pw: alpine) and then type (yellowsn0w -a) enter and wait for few seconds, the carrier and bars should come up in few seconds if not reboot the phone and turn the AirPlan Mode on and off if u see "searching" then u success... well, so far this is what i did.
p.s. type (yellowsn0w -help) u will see other commands and maybe u can try others if the one i said didnt work. hope it works for u guys

I can confirm this works and I will also add you're going to have to put your phone into airplane mode after any reboot to get T-Mobile up and running. It will not have your network loaded up at least it will not for me. I am on T-Mobile.
I got some weird error message in terminal after typing the commandsabove. I simply rebooted, (still no T-Mobile) placed into plane mode, took out of plane mode, you'll see searching, and then you should get T-Mobile up and running. Looks like .95 is still very buggy.
