Using the iphone as a tethered or untethered modem?
Is this possible with tmobile. Whate do I need to make it work? I would prefer to connect laptop via bluetooth, but would tether if necessary.
Thanks.

1. Jailbreak your iPhone
2. Install 3Proxy and MobileTerminal from Cydia
3. Create an Ad-Hoc Network on your laptop, Join it on your iPhone
4. Find your iPhone's IP address, Write it down
5. Open up Terminal, Type in "socks", Hit Return
6. Open Safari on your iPhone, Open up a web page
7. In Firefox, go to Preferences, Advanced, Network, then Settings
8. Fill in your iPhone's IP address into the SOCKS host field, enter 1080 as the port number, then close
9. In Firefox's URL, enter "about:config"
10. In Filter, type socks, then double click "network.proxy.socks_remote_dns" to make its value "true".
11. Enjoy Internet using 3G or EDGE on your laptop!
Here's the website I got it from:

I tried it, and it really does work.

Did you use a tether or did you connect via bluetooth?

I used a tether with an Ad-Hoc network, computer-to-computer (or iPhone in this case). That is what I wrote about.
BTW, tethered doesn't mean connected via USB cord. It just means iPhone sharing the Internet with your laptop. An untethered iPhone is just a normal iPhone.Last edited by noggin123450; 12-06-2008 at 07:37 PM.

So can I "tether" via bluetooth?

No, you tether using the Ad-Hoc network. If you just do what I said, everything should work fine.

Does anyone have a link to creating an ad hoc network. I'm running xp on my laptop.

Or you can just get iPhone Modem and let that do all the work.
