Am I absolutely crazy??
Just got my first iPhone less than 2 months ago, a 16GB 3G.
Yes I absolutely love it... except for having to use the sim adapter and loosing service randomly and having to restart and/or re-set the sim.
Oh, and I like the look of the metal backs better than the white/black.
So I decided to do a trade for a 16GB 2G model plus $100 cash.
I want to have it totally unlocked and activated without a sim adapter (yes I know they are close to cracking the baseband of the 3G), I want to have a metal back (they look nicer IMHO) and I can put that $100 on my credit card.
How many people think I'm insane for downgrading?

you're crazy dood. straight trade i'd do it. else i wouldn't trade my 3G, especially a contractless 3G, which althou u'll still need a contract to use att but it would be worth the wait. w/e your call.

I made $100 from the trade. Isn't that worth anything? :-D
Did you all think I was paying the $100? No no, I received it. I'm not that crazy...
Not like I'm going to miss the 3G abilities since I can't use it on T-Mobile anyway.

Ur awesome! The 2G iphone is by far the best choice for T-Mobile... better battery, better screen tint, better overall construction (aluminum back is every durable), and MUCH better reception. The 4.05.04 baseband rocks which is why it hasn't ever been upgraded or modified for 2G phones... way to go!

my homeboy traded a black 8gb 3G for a perfectly fine 16gb 2G and $200. you can get more than $100 extra and i personally like the 2G better. 3G just looks good imo.

I once prayed to God for an iPhone, but quickly found out He didn't work that way...so I stole an iPhone and prayed for His forgiveness.

Anyways, this is a software related isse that could be easily fixed in the near future. As for the iPhone 1st gen, it doesn't have a GPS antenna, so there is no way he's gonna have any GPS relaed capability.
I saw the other day that it is possible to put the GPS software that some GPS systems have into smart phones, but I'm not sure if this can be done in the iPhone. If that is possible, that would be awesome because then you don't even need to be connected to edge, right?
