The phone needs to be unlocked in order to gain access to the additional network settings. What generation iPhone and what firmware and what carrier are you on?

I went to cydia to look for APN network to download and can't find it in there, perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place I did check under all headings but again I can't find anything that refers to APN.. Can you help steer me in the right direction my phone is unlocked and it's a 2G on 2.1

did you install APN edit after you restored? Or it was there as soon as you were done?

What I did was navigate safari to unlockit.co.nz and from there you can enter your apn settings and it downloads straight into your phone and you can find it in settings after. Used this Metis since 2.0-2.2

Restore and start over.. that's what several of my friends had to do... I have no idea what they installed from Cydia to get it to disappear...

Vpn - vs - apn
I'm hoping this will help some ppl. I posted the other day a message asking how do I get APN on my iphone, I was told to go to go to settings then go to networks then to APN, well I tried that and I didn't have any APN there all I had was VPN !! So I checked into it alittle further and was told to go to Cydia and go into Networking section to download the APN driver base. Well try as I did I couldn't find anything in network that had anything to do with APN. So in desperation I looked in the section "All Packages" and there it was the download for APN I installed it and then went into settings and then General then in General there it was called "Cellular Data Network" I put in my user name and password and the carrier and presto it all worked. I hope this will help anybody trying to get this ..Good Luck and happy iphoning...

open itunes
hold shift and click Restore. select the firmware that you downloaded to unlock or jailbreak the phone with.
after restoring, re-jailbreak/re-unlock.
apn settings should be present afterwards. if not, try the process over again.

@ sherman banks: i didnt install tzones hack (ever) and the apn setting was still missing so thats the reason behind my solution.

I didn't say the tzones hack, the Tmobile US Carrier hack, which is different. If you didn't install that, then I could see how a restore would be appropriate. I even tried the APN editor on Cydia but didn't work. Wish somebody had an explanation as to why it does this.
