Reception with 2.1
Hey guys, so obviously the new FW (2.1) is out today. For those of you who have installed it, how has it affected your reception/edge performance?

I am with optus in Oz, & am very happy to report a 3 bar improvement (inside) i use to have 1 bar or no servive, out side 5 bars, before 2 or 3. Very happy.
Also noticed a loader tone in received sms, and am sure in incoming call sounds but yet to get 1, as have just finished syncing.
Also turned off phone to log back on to network and noticed no "searching" text just straight on to the network. Impressed!Last edited by nickh; 09-12-2008 at 10:58 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost

It might just be my wishful thinking but my reception is 100x better than with 2.0.2. I don't have anymore bars than I used to, but I no longer randomly lose service. The new EDGE icon looks like crap but I haven't lost EDGE or phone service since I upgraded my firmware. Everything is also a lot quicker. Anyone let me know if you need help. Thank me if any of this helped

I have the same reception. And I also hate the new EDGE icon.
However the sms and other apps are faster. I keep reminding myself if that until there's a jailbreak for windows... An winpwn one. I don't trust myself with the other ways.

I have more bars and they are stable and not fluctuating all the time. My wifi seems to conect as soonas I wake up the phone whereas before it took awhile and sometimes required me to go into settings.

If I've helped you, you can help me by clicking on that Thanks button.

To everyone who's posting here who have iPhone 3G and T-Mobile sim, please let me know how you upgraded to 2.1. Does everything still works (like calls, sms, edge and youtube) after upgrading? Any problems you've encountered after upgrading? Thanks!

After upgrade I noticed the reception is perhaps one bar better than before but still I have "no service" from time to time.
The huge difference is the EDGE and I never had any problems on 2.0.2, I have 4 iphones and all of them lost signal after a week. First I would install the t-zone hack, then I checked my apn settings (which was fine) but after every reboot I lose my apn settings. I then re-install the hack and correct the settings and then it works for a day or two before I lose the EDGE again.

I'm still new to the iPhone world BUT if the baseband has not been changed for the 2G reception can not improve ,you are working off of the same baseband as 2.0 to 2.0.2. If someone knows different please let me know I wish signal strength was better (the only thing I don't like about the iPhone).

So I finally updated to 2.1 and must say that I am saddened. Dropped calls, no service, 1-2 bars where I had 4-5... IDK
Was so excited to update but I am just discouraged now
