Will T-Mobile charge me for data if I have no plan?

I've been looking around but I haven't seen a clear-cut answer to this.

I'm using a 2G iPhone on T-Mo. I don't intend on getting a data plan. Edge is enabled and the icon shows, but I can't access anything unless I'm connected to WiFi (i.e., my stocks won't update, maps won't load, etc.). Safari gives me a 500 internal server error when I try to go somewhere on the web.

HOWEVER, my usage stats still show positive data sent/received stats...

Is there any chance that I get charged like by the Kb like AT&T does?

I don't think the edge icon ever goes away. Just to be on the safe side, turn edge off using bossprefs.
That being said, I doubt your edge would be on unless you actually tried to turn it on via all those t-mobile edge instructions that seem to be floating around.

I'm looking right now 8-20-08 and do NOT see the Tzones Hack on Cydia. HAs it been removed or something? I'm trying to get Tzones working like many others but can't find the Tzones Hack. Anyone got any idea where it is?

Sorry to be so dense but I'm new to this stuff. I see something called BigBoss's Source (BigBoss's APT repository). Is that it? I went to the search screen in Cydia.

All I see under "Tweaks" is "MobileMusicPlayer" and "Net.-Local Number format". I'm using firmware 2.0.1. Would that make a difference in what I see on Cydia?

hmm, install the source from the search function and then search for the t-zones hack.
I'm on 2.0.1 and I see it, so you should be okay.

Thanks much, "461am". That did it. I didn't realize that I needed to install the BigBoss Source. I'm starting to get the hang of how this stuff works now. I'll try the Tzone hack and see if I can get Edge now. Thanks!

That's definitely not it... The category in Usage says "Cellular Network Data". If it was WiFi the number would be in the tens of MB, not the tens of Kb.

da bears trust me on this one bro, when I first got my unlocked iPhone for use with T-Mobile, I tried using Safari and maps, etc. It never worked but I noticed the same thing you mentioned the kbs sent and recieved kept adding up everytime I tried to use those apps, so I immediately contacted T-Mobile and asked them if I was being charged a certain rate based on kb usage and they said NO. So your safe my friend. They said if I wanted Internet for my iPhone I would need the 19.99 total internet plan and I said no thanks give me the t-zones plan for 5.99 instead, so they did and after that I went to my apn settings and typed in wap.voicestream.com, rebooted my iPhone and voilą everything works. So your safe buddy, hit the thanks button if I helped you out bro.

I called T-Mobile as well, and they gave me the same answer. I won't find out for sure until my next bill arrives, but I doubt I'm going to get charged.

When I called a long time ago because my MMS messages wouldn't send (on a Pearl, not an iPhone) they told me to activate edge but that I wouldn't get charged for data traffic since I couldn't use it for anything but MMS anyways.

So I'm guessing you will see EDGE right there but without a plan it's just for picture messaging.

as long as you dont have tzones hack and not using internet your fine..i would install services and turn edge off just in case ..
