If you update to 1.1.1 before jailbreaking and upgrading your baseband, your will brick your phone.

If you want to upgrade, look at the guides for jailbreaking and upgrading your baseband to 1.1.1 first.

You need to do it another way, you have to jailbreak the 1.1.1 while updating to 1.1.1, its in the guides section. YOu have to be pretty handy with terminal to do this, because there is no GUI hack for 1.1.1 yet.
