Thread: Copying Photo Library to Mac

    Default Mac Backup Damaged
I have a MacBook Pro with OS X Lion and I just recently updated from Snow Leopard. I crated a backup before but now my backup dmg keeps saying it couldn't be opened due to reason: no mountable file systems.
Any way I can salvage any of its contents? It's almost 80 gb of valuable data

I'm hoping this article will help you out, you're not the only one with this problem either. How to Fix "No Mountable File System" Error in Mac OS X

Tried that :/ It keeps looping, "Saving File(s)" while loading the original dmg over and over again.

I'm trying to find this problem, it just doesn't seem many people have it. Maybe this would be a bit helpful? DropDMG: The easy way to create and convert Mac disk images (.dmg files)

Tell me if it's not, I've been searching all over.

    Didn't work :/ got:

Error hdiutil: convert failed - corrupt image

    The error occurred while executing “/Applications/DropDMG.app/Contents/Frameworks/MJTFoundation.framework/Versions/A/auth-tool /usr/bin/hdiutil convert /Volumes/Smiles passport/MacBook Pro/MACINTOSHbackup.dmg -imagekey zlib-level=9 -format UDZO -o /Volumes/Smiles passport/MacBook Pro/DropDMGConversionTemp.56321379-B4BF-4083-9D13-39E647D93CF9/MACINTOSHbackup-1.dmg -puppetstrings”.

That's a LONG error -_- I found a bit of a different problem on the internet, but it was pretty similar. I'm having a hard time finding your though...

I don't own a Mac myself so I'm not as big of an expert on this. But from what I read, could the backup files be corrupted or something? Do you have enough room on your Mac to store the 80 GB of stuff you're trying to put in there?

I'm pretty sure by now, it is corrupt for good. I was just trying to attempt to salvage anything I can. I had enough room but by now, with all the apps and music I've retrieved through cloud, I don't have enough for everything. I just wanted to open up the corrupt file and see anything I can of its contents.

Ok well since I know that backup is gone, I have a lot of photos I synced from iPhoto on the mac to my iPad. Is there anyway I can get the pictures off my iPad and back to iPhoto?

So the iPad doesn't work like the iPhone? Where if you just plug it into your Mac and open iPhoto it will ask to import your iDevice photos?

I don't own an iPad or a Mac so I honestly have no clue. I would think it would, but I went ahead a researched it just to be sure. And this is what I came up with, supposedly, it should work...

I guess just plugging it in and seeing what it says is worth a try lol

I legitimately don't know either lol. That's why I'm asking. That guide confused me bc I thought all iDevices basically work the same way when connecting to a computer

    They do and it should.
Worst case just make a portion on you hd and install sl and open up the dmg and import them.
Once done compress them into a folder and FTP them to a server once uploaded delete your sl portion and reopen Lion. Log in to the FTP and grap the file and place on your desktop.

iAnnie: It does work like an iPhone when I connect it, but it only shows my Camera Roll and photos I've saved from the internet. Not my photo library which contains pictures synced from my mac from iPhoto.

H4CK3R: I will try the linked guide and report with how that works

    Cowboy: What is sl?

If you mean by finding them in the file system, yes. They're in this directory: /var/mobile/Media/DCIM/Apple100/

Sorry but I'm looking for the photo library (synced images from iPhoto via iTunes), not the camera roll.
